We have (or I have at least) discussed this in various topics before, but those posts have been off-topic so I guess it is time to make a topic where we introduce our favorite music and if possible, post samples (Myspace links are pretty nice). You can make lists of what bands/artists you like and maybe write something about them or whatever. Do what you feel like.

See the second part of my signature below~! :D
Ironically, I don't think I listen to a quarter of that stuff on a regular basis. Some things are just there cuz I never bothered to delete them.
Most of the gaming OSTs are midway through the list but these are mostly of the ones I, uh ... well, they're not sitting among the CDs on my shelf, if you catch my drift. ^^;
As for Dragonforce, I dunno if I can ever sit through an entire album. If I'm actually really intentionally listening to the music I tend to listen one song, go to something completely different and then go back. It gets too much at times. ^^;;;

My musical mood tends to get stuck in a given area for weeks at a time... then I'll change to something else and go long stretches without the previous mood hitting me again. Then it cycles all back over again.
Below are those that pop up a lot. Try Amazon.com for samples of all but the anime/game goodies.
Metal/Rock: Kamelot ^.^<3, Sonata Arctica, Within Temptation, and After Forever.
New Age/World: Vas (also the vocalist of this pair, Azam Ali. She has one of the single most beautiful voices I think I've heard...), Loreena McKennitt, David Arkenstone, Secret Garden, Dead Can Dance (also the vocalist of this pair too, Lisa Gerrard. Another great voice and talent.)
Movie Soundtracks: Yay for Hans Zimmer, and Jerry Goldsmith.
Anime/Game: Yuki Kajiura's stuff is usually great. Madlax is probably my favorite of her anime ventures.. and the Xenosaga II and III movie scene tracks in games. XD Motoi Sakuraba ranks as a longtime favorite composer, Falcom (duh?) soundteam, Guilty Gear, Soul Calibur II and III... and various others. Shadow of the Colossus has an amazing score.
I think that covers some of the common ones.
And for the record, I detest country, rap, and hip-hop... and I'm not terribly fond of blues or jazz.

That was indeed a fine post. The KGB will be inspecting it.

That was a good list of detests. Hopefully everybody here will approve. As for those who don't....

Holy stuff!!!! That KGB tune IS cool. @_@ This is so going on the iPod!!! Is this the same guy? www.jasonstewart.net/ The Alien Funk tune is fun. And hooray for Hans Zimmer and Jerry Goldsmith! :D Yes to Kajiura as well. <3 Sakuraba's a hit or miss for me. I do so adore his Star Ocean OST and Baiten Kaitos OST though. The arranged Valkyrie Profile CD is quite good too. But I still think that not every rap and hip hop song out there should be detested. Country either.

Sarah Fimm? Checked out some samples. I like~! Time to go shopping... XD And you win, Captain sir, for liking of the Kamelot and SA. =P And hooray for Hans Zimmer and Jerry Goldsmith! Yes to Kajiura as well. <3 Sakuraba's a hit or miss for me. I do so adore his Star Ocean OST and Baiten Kaitos OST though. The arranged Valkyrie Profile CD is quite good too. But I still think that not every rap and hip hop song out there should be detested. Country either. Heehee. I do love me some bombast in my movie scores... As Sakuraba goes, I love Baiten Kaitos most of all. Tales is hit or miss sometimes, but he's paired with Shinji Tamura for that, and the sound samples aren't as good to me for some reason... XD On the Valkyrie Profile arrange, I just squee happily anytime I hear Skygate. I know it's unreasonable of me... but I just get violent urges anytime I hear anything country. Barring maybe, MAYBE one or two songs, sparingly. I just can't handle the vocal styling for some reason.

But I still think that not every rap and hip hop song out there should be detested. Country either. Didn't you see this? Well, I've actually heard a couple of good songs from those genres. A handful, or less.

LOL, captain, that song was pretty funny. Tune wasn't so bad either. I totally didn't expect that. Why do I imagine it was sung by a russian pirate or something...?
outside of games...
Indian stuff: A.R. Rahman (you guys could have heard of him, if you saw spike lee's Inside Man or watched the LOTR show in Toronto) Rahul Sharma (i've got something of his playing in my MSN space right now)
Japanese: Video game music (I'll make an ordered list one day) Yoko Kanno Yuki Kajiura
...cant' think of anything else specifically...

Here's some of what I like, there are two songs of two different bands in this video, but please watch it! Everybody loves the first song, for some magical reason. www.youtube.com/watch?v=chFBHMUUMl8

They are awesome live. Get back to the UK and do another live, dammit! Anyway: Metal/Rock: Sonata Arctica, Within Temptation, DespairsRay, Nightwish, In Flames, Children of Bodom, X Japan. Anime: Yuki Kajiura (Mai HiME, Noir), Kou Otani (Shana, Shadow of the Colossus), Toshihiko Sahashi (Gundam Seed/Destiny), a reasonable chunk of I've Sound's stuff (Mami Kawada especially), JAM Project, Kenji Kawai (Fate/stay night). Game: Anything by Key (Kanon, Air, Clannad), Saitama Saisyu Heiki (SSH), Falcom (no, really?), ZUN (Touhou Series), Motoi Sakuraba (Shining Force 3, Star Ocean 3), Tenpei Sato (Disgaea, Phantom Brave). That'll do for now. The KGB song is quality, and cheers Seldane, I have a new band to hunt down now.

Oh! Does anyone here go to/listen to stuff from Magnatune? :D magnatune.com/I randomly sample things here now and then. A friend of mine bought me the classical music compilation one year. It is nice stuff. :3 And since most people narrowed down their list of artists, I guess I should do that as well. :3 But I'll do it by albums instead! Albums! (It's basically a list of albums that I can listen to without skipping many tracks. ^^) - Erasure - Pop! - the First 20 Hits
- Pet Shop Boys - Discography
- Roxette - Look Sharp!
- Abba - Gold: Greatest Hits
- E.S. Posthumus - Unearthed
- The KLF - The White Room
- U2 - The Best Of 1980-1990 (disc 1 only. Not the B-sides)
- Howard Shore - The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of
the Ring
- Team America: World Police <-- The instrumental stuff on this soundtrack is pretty damn good.
- Klaus Doldinger and Giorgio Moroder - The Never Ending Story
- Hans Zimmer - The Lion King
- Shimomura Yoko - Legend of Mana
- Fukasawa Hideyuki - Chaos Legion
- Yamane Michiru - OZ
- Uematsu Nobuo - Final Fantasy IV
- Falcom Sound Team jdk - VM Japan, Zwei!!
- Ito Kenji - Romancing SaGa OSV, -Minstrel Song-
