Hmm. I like deeper voiced singers myself; it seems easier for them to go beyond making the motions of singing and putting some real feeling into their work. This is, as I said, part of why I hate much modern music, identicle mechanical singing. And I admit, I like good basswork and don't mind a slower song. If I weren't on a slow connection, I'd upload some Curtis Mayfield, who isn't any of the things you described, and harvest your opinion on it.

well I do make an exception for deep voiced singers in two 'styles'...ambience (see Arcana for that) where they're part of the overall song and not it's center point...and opera. I find bass/baritone in the latter to usually be rich rather than just..heavy. Hmm..never heard of that singer- no surprise. Perhaps I can find a sample of him on the net. Do you have a particular song title you'd recommend I look for, or just try any and all? I'm always open to giving something another chance. Barring gangster rap. That category is doomed to hatred with me. -- Found some samples of him on my music club. I don't really dislike it- but it falls into a gray area with me. He's not heavy or slow- just not to my particular taste with the pauses in his singing. I will grant him use of full instrumentation at least- a good sight better than many artists in his genre do. I really didn't like his use of guitars in the samples I heard though. Went through an anthology collection to try to find a variety of them. On the other hand- his use of brass was good.

Hm..just gave that one a listen. Doesn't make me go "arrgh" like most but still not quite my cup of tea. What kind of choir music are you looking for? Lumi directed me to some pretty nice stuff for full and female classical choirs awhile back.

Also, here's a good musical litmus testHeh. Awesome. I know this band rather well. I saw what the link was named, and I wondered which track it was going to be, then I found it was all of them! I haven't listened to much of them (or much ska at all) since high school. Good old nostalgia.

If you want choir (female).... Abbess Hildegard Von Bingen's compositions are a great start. That is, if you want OLD (we're talking 1100s here) stuff. Another choice in the classical arena would be Monteverdi's Vespers. A lot of that is largely a capella and sung beautifully by male and female voices in turn.

I said I'd make a list one day, and today has to be that day... This is all of the Game music I like to listen to outside of the games (or would if i could, in some cases). FightersKing of Fighters (MI, 98, 98 Arranged) Street Fighter (SSF2T > SFEX+A > SFA2 > SFA3 > EX2) Soul Edge/Blade (Khan Super Session) Darkstalkers Tekken (Tag > 2 > 5) Marvel vs Street Fighter > Marvel vs Capcom SVC Chaos Super Smash Bros. Melee Last Blade 1 & 2Adventure/RPG/ActionZelda (LttP > Minish Cap > Wind Waker > Majora > OOT) Estpolis Biography - Lufia (TLR > II > FoD > Ruins) Cima the Enemy Ys series Castlevania (CoD > LoI > Simon's Quest > SotN > Rondo > CotM) Parasite Eve Mario (World > SMB3 > 64 > RPG > SMB) Metroid (original/super/zero > Prime > Prime 2 > Pinball > Fusion) Mega Man 2, 3, and 7 Mega Man X (1 > 2 and 3 > 4 > 8 > 5 and 6 > 7) Mega Man X Command Mission Mega Man Zero (3 > 4 > 1 > 2) Samurai Warriors (Sengoku Musou) Kirby's Dream Land and Super Star shock troopers 2 timecrises 1 and 2 Super Double Dragon Custom Robo Battle RevolutionOtherF-Zero (X - guitar arranged > GP > original > GX) Super Monkey Ball (Banana Blitz > Touch & Roll > 1 > 2) Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo Tetris (kalinka and all that good stuff) Meteos Super Tetris 3 Super Mario Kart Every Extend Puzzle Bobble DS Top Gear Rallyas for choir music... that's O Fortuna, Vangelis, and Conan for me (I avoid all parodies and overuse of O Fortuna, btw... it's still awesome to me!) oh, and I forgot to mention that Malmsteen hasn't been mentioned yet (that masterpiece with the Japanese Philharmonic is sweet).

I've definitely gotta check out 96 and get my hands on XI and it's arranged tracks... they're high on my most wanted list. I didn't start playing KOF untill 99 came out on PSOne, after that I played everything from 98 to 2003. I missed out on 94 to 97. I liked a lot of music from 98 but out of the arranged stuff I only really loved listening to Fanatic Waltz and Mad Fantasy... I wish I could find the non-arranged soundtrack somewhere.

I shall say this: Anyone who hates Funk, Soul, or Blues is going straight to super hell =[ Okay, if we weren't sure, it's settled now. The Captain rules. Lots of varied musical taste here! And at the same time, a good number of us are into the same bands... pretty cool. To the Vangelis fans! What else is good? I really, really loved the Blade Runner soundtrack, and outside of it, I've never owned nor heard an album of his. Where should I look to next? Out of curiosity, are there any other Tom Waits fans here? Oh, I'm sure there must be. Inochi 命, you need to check out the KOFXI Arrange. Good stuff. Best since '96, in my personal opinion... My only experience with the XI soundtrack is what I've heard while watching videos and in the brief time I DID get to play it, I couldn't hear much. Sigh... I kind of want to check it out now, but at the same time, I really want to also be able to play the damn game. Maybe it's time I get that PS2 modded finally. I mean, Hokuto no Ken is coming up, so I have no choice, really.

Oh Captain, almost forgot about this. It's a CD that got sent my way once- has a good smattering of a few different choral sorts on it. Great Choral ClassicsNot sure if it'd be to your taste but it's a nice mix of classical composers. And yes..Gregorian chants are lovely when done right. ^.^

Eh, what I've seen of HnK didn't impress me. Really spotty animation, which sucks. :/ And I just went with Swap Magic and a fliptop... cost me about $60 with shipping, and voila. Works like a dream. I got to put in some time on it at Otakon, and I really liked it... which is to be expected, I go batshit for anything HnK. I don't even want to talk about how much money I put into the PunchMania/Fighting Mania games. I'm also pretty crazy for Arc, and yeah, they've never been known for fantastic animation, but the sprites look good and I enjoyed the gameplay, so I can deal with it. I just wonder if they'll fix any of the stupid infinites and glitches for the home version. And yeah, I've heard a lot about Swap Magic lately, but I'd prefer a solution that doesn't involve new external parts. Still, my soldering skills aren't so hot, so maybe I ought to go that way. Oh, and to be on topic! Hammerfall is a pretty silly band. I'm sure if you've heard them before you might agree. But... did you know how silly they really are? youtube.com/watch?v=dL9mlqbG5CU

Hmm.. I've listened to random Vangelis stuff... I didn't like Blade Runner's soundtrack as much as I didn't like the movie, but I do like Conquest of Paradise, Chariots of Fire, some great stuff i cant remember the name of, and The Four Horsemen. speaking of which... THE LEADING HORSE IS WHITE, THE SECOND HORSE IS RED THE THIRD ONE IS THE BLACK THE LAST ONE IS A GREEEEEEEN. NANANAAAANANANAANAAANANANA.... that song is unbeleivable... it always reminds me of that horse gif. The first time I though about the combination I fell laughing to the floor. if anyone wants to hear this thing...
