Heh, this is new. Alright, I've heard of swishing salt-water for inflamed gums -- but this is bugging me. Behind my last tooth in the right side of my mouth, the area where my mouth just begins to curve, a chunk of my... mouth-flesh is swollen. It's a little painful, to say the least. It's squish-able, so I know I don't have another tooth growing there (and it'd be weird for one to grow there anyway!)... it's almost like it's either flooded, I accidentally bit it, or something else... Has anyone else had this problem? What do you recommend? This is the first time I've ever noticed it -- the slight aching and tenderness made me look!

Firstly, I'd give it a few days to settle down. Once in awhile, people tend to irritate their gums one way or another.
This sounds more throaty, though, if it's just behind your gums. Might be a throat infection, or strep.

Hmmm, that could be possible, although it doesn't feel throaty. I also have a swollen, tender gland on the right side of my neck, just beneath where my jaw ends. I don't know whether or not that's relevant.

I had one of those on the left side of my jaw a couple weeks ago.
Does it hurt slightly if you move you head in certain ways, like looking up at an angel?

I dunno about looking up at angels -- but if I tilt my head to the side or look down at an angle, yeah. It's very weird and it needs to go away.
I remember it happening in Job Corps, too -- both glands on both sides of my neck were swollen pretty bad, I could eat, swallow, or even breathe without them hurting like crazy. It took a while for them to calm down, but the medical services at Job Corps are crap anyway... I mean, seriously, if you get injured at night, you have to wait until the morning to get a nurse?! What the shit is that?

I dunno about the Job Corp thing.
But yeah, it sounds kinda like you got what I did. Try taking some Ibuprofen or Bufferin or some such, and see if that makes it more manageable. If so, then there's a fair chance it'll go away on its own in a couple days.

Sounds like a Wisdom tooth. They grow very slowly, and you gums are going to be a little squishy because they are being pushed up and broken. It will probably go away in afew days, but it will return. Mention it to your dentist next time you are there. Or if it's that pain make an appointment.

That would be a little weird -- since I had my wisdoms pulled to prevent crowding and grinding and breaking... that, and a wisdom shouldn't go that far back -- where it's swollen in my mouth, there would be a space between it and what should be the last tooth in the back of my mouth.
It'd be like this: nnnnnn-n where '-' would be the regular ending of my gums.
