Hi everyone, just became a Ys fan like...5 days ago. Started by wanting to get Oath in Felghana, then found out there was Ys 1 and 2 for pc, and decided to play those first to get the backstory and all that. In the end found out the backstory wasn't really needed, but enjoyed the games and the music , the story is decent also. So right now my plan is to play and beat most Ys games. Also had some questions, I beated Ys 1 and 2, should I beat Oath in Felghana next, or MotS (And Dawn of Ys)? The real order is MotS (And Dawn of Ys) and then OiF right, so what do you guys advice? Also where does Ys Strategy go in the storyline and is it any good? Well for those that take their time and read all that, thanks a lot ^^. Nice meeting everyone~

Greetings, sir! I don't think it particularly matters what order you play the games in. I guess if you were going for chronological accuracy in terms of the plot, 4, 3, 5, 6 and on would be the route to take. Well, I suppose technically you should have played Origin first in that regard, it taking place 700 years before Ys 1.

Yeah, I know I should've played Origins first, but decided to leave it for after I play Ys 6 XD. And thanks for the reply on Ys Strategy, probably won't even try it now.

Yes, don't try Ys Strategy. It's not even canon, nor was it done by Falcom. (Theorically though, it takes place centuries after Ys ORIGIN and centuries before Ys I. But it is one shitty game. Pretty stupid too.) Actually, I recommend you play both Ys IVs before Ys III or YsOiF for three reasons: - Chronologically you are playing them correctly; - Both Ys IVs use the same battle system, the famous bumping system. Ys III and YsOiF use different systems each; - The story of both Ys IV are highly connected to Ys I and II, while both Ys III and OiF are almost 100% unrelated (though thanks to Ys VI, Ys ORIGIN and Ys OiF, Ys III's story kind of got some connections to the rest of the series). Also welcome. And try playing both Ys IVs, not only one.

Ys Strategy isn't called Ys Tragedy for nothing. Never. Ever. Play that one. You're not missing ANYTHING by not playing it. That is all. What, no corrections about how he misspelled Ys numerous times? Anyway, welcome to the forums, luekil!

Hahaha, thanks Red Hairdo and korzic. Edited my older posts "Ys" to "Ys" . And also wanted to ask something, which versions are worth playing? Like any other versions of Ys III(Plan to play Oath in Felghana) or something?

Oh my Zod! He's everywhere these days! Anyway, back to the topic, Hahaha, thanks Red Hairdo and korzic. Edited my older posts "Ys" to "Ys" . And also wanted to ask something, which versions are worth playing? Like any other versions of Ys III(Plan to play Oath in Felghana) or something? For Ys I&II, I think everyone agrees that the Complete version for PC is the best one, but you can also try the classic TurboDuo version which has some nice voice acting and a much better music quality overall. Ys III is very different in gameplay from Oath (and from the rest of the series, also). It's kinda the black sheep, but very fun indeed. The 3 better versions are for the Genesis, Turbo Duo and SNES. My favorite is the latter (better graphics and gameplay, more faithful translation), but there are people who prefer one of the others. The music in the Duo version is the best, and it also has some pretty bad voice acting. There's a good version for the PS2 also, but the gameplay's been altered (some didn't like the change) and it's only in japanese. Both versions of Ys IV are good. Dawn of Ys is better, in my opinion, but Mask of the Sun is cannon, so yeah, play both. As for Ys VI, I much prefer the PC version, with the original character sprites (instead of the ugly 3D models) and all, but apart from that they're pretty much the same (you gotta input a code in the PS2 version to see the original cutscenes, though). Ys V and Origin only came out for one system (SNES and PC, respectively), and they're both great, but so far they're the only ones that still haven't got an English version (they will, though - at least Origin). And that's it for my lenghty Ys expose. Back to Zod now!

In case you're interested in playing Ys III and not only YsOiF, I also suggest you play the SNES version mostly because its translation was done better than all of the localized versions (source is a guy who played most of them, translated many Ys games, including the NES version of Ys III etc.). Ys V --> Definitely SNES', but unfortunately you can't play it in english. =( Ys VI --> The PC version IS a good choice, and you can even use an english patch, but I recommend the PS2 version over it, because it got localized (with great translation as well) and is more user-friendly for being in a console. Well, I hope you get to like the series as a whole, and become one of those fans who try to get the most out of it.
