I suppose I should stop lurking and actually post something ^^;
Been poking around here since February and haven't bothered saying much [but really, once I start talking/typing, I don't shut up. It might be best that I restrain myself :p]
As for my Ys exposure, I think I encountered it in passing back in the Genesis days, but was totally into the Sonic games so I didn't investigate further ^^;
I actually decided to pick up I&II when I saw Atlus releasing the DS version [yes, I've heard it's not the best version out there]; as of currently I'm still lost in that bloody temple [even with a map guide I'm lost ;>>] It's fun being a Roo though XD
So, uh, yea, that's about all, and I suck at intros ^^;

Do talk all you want. People tend to ramble on quite a bit sometimes around here, so everybody's used to it.

You should play Ys I-II Complete for the PC, that's really the best version of those games. And try also the newer games. Oath in Felghana specially is awesome, and you should be familiar with it, since it's a retelling of Ys III.
