Is anyone else looking forward to this like me? I can't wait, I'm a huge fan, the first comic book I read in the eighties was TMNT. It looks like they're not going to be serious, as in the other movies. While I don't like that, I'm willing to look past that and just enjoy it for what it is. I think it will be great! What do you think?

The movie is more like the comics, right? Just like the new TV show? I don't know why, but I think even though I know the comics make better stories and stuff, I prefer the old cartoon with crap like Rocksteady and Bee Bop. I like my good, serious stories... but probably cuz I've never known about the TMNT comics until just a few years ago, I cant imagine mutant ninja turtles trying to be a serious thing. Still, from what I saw of the trailers, it looks like they retained a bit of that old TV show style too, though. I look forward to checking it out, although that may not be in theaters.

I'm still in a state not unlike the end of Planet of the Apes, in which I still bedazzled over why people are trying to necromance something that has rightfully and blessedly died.
so not really, I'm afraid.

I'm glad they went CG. With it comes a lot more possibilities. Also, the animation looks good, it doesn't look too computerized.

My girlfriend and a friend of mine who is around the same age as me saw a trailer for TMNT at the movies a few months ago. I remember my girlfriend commenting on how dumb the movie looked (since she was never really into TMNT to begin with) and my friend and I turned to one another and uttered virtually the same line. "Now that doesn't look half-bad." It seems they got the formula of the old show in there rather than the all-extreme version that is the current updated TV show where they all look the same and sound the same. I might pop by the movie theatre and see this one sometime. : )

Ironically enough, I'm eating a piece of pizza as I'm reading this. : ) Nice find by the way! I never realized the show was on from 1987-1996. That's a lot of seasons! I also didn't know that they had a Japanese version where they were given super powers and giant mecha. But hey why not? With shows with giant robots being quite common in Japan, the turtle van just doesn't quite cut it. : ) -SkyeWelse

In the original comics, they did all look the same (all red bandanas), barring the weapons. The tone was also far, far darker. You're talking about Shell Shock aren't you? I had forgotten about that comic. I remember my father getting that for me just after getting into the cartoon show and finding out just how dark the original story really was. Of course at the time I didn't know that the show was based on the comic, I simply took it as someone's idea of making Ninja Turtles a bit more adult-oriented. I don't think my father read the comic before giving it to me or he might have reconsidered. If I recall, there were several scenes that were violently drawn, crude or painful to see with a lot of blood, bullets flying and hitting people (since they were fighting drug dealers and such) and some sort of junk robot that I believe ended up killing one of the original four turtles. Though my memory of the comic is pretty vague. Yeah, not for kids. Definitely. -SkyeWelse

Yeah, I've read about the original comics. The new TV series is surprisingly supposed to be closer to that original material. I like TMNT totaly for nostolgic reasons. I know how silly it all is its funny to think of how easily I got into it way back then... I grew up watching the stuff and it was one of my favorite shows. Although I see it's silliness now (I would usually hate the typical dumb enemy cliche), I have to say it's a lot better than a lot of the crap kids watch today Oh, Xbox 360 owners: XBLA is getting a TMNT The Arcade Game with 2-4 players multiplayer and online. I've still got the cart for NES... played that game to death with my brother

That can be said about a lot of old shows versus new shows I'm afraid. The quality of animated kids cartoons in America has diminished quite a bit and much of it has been replaced with domesticated anime.
Your statement reminds me of my exact sentiment that I get whenever I watch Gargoyles, another incredibly good animated kids show.

Yeah, you're right Skye. Something similar to this was discussed in another thread not too long ago (don't know if you saw that one). Like I did in that thread, I can definitely list a ton of shows unarguably better than what kids watch today in almost every way... some of today's stuff almost makes me fear for the future of mankind heheh... But I never got into Gargoyles as a kid (although I loved Batman, which i'm guessing was similar in it's complexity for a "kid's" animated cartoon ) I did love watching it's intro, though. I don't think I found it's characters very appealing... or something.

i wouldn't say gargoyles were a kids cartoon... there was one episode that was "banned" because it dealt with gun violence...

yeah, that's why I said "kids" (teh quotashunz!) There were quite a few cartoons around that time that would come on Saturday mornings that many would dismiss for kid's shows but were definitely watched by a variety of ages. When I was little my dad used to watch batman with me and my brother, but sometimes we found him watching it without us... he really looked forward to the "to be continued" episodes. Even my mom got in to it from time to time. Spiderman was another cartoon that did this, but I got sick of that series fast while my brother and dad continued to love watching it. Oh, and how could I forget X-men? It's kinda too bad I never got in to comics... they have some amazing stories.

Well Inochi, you might think about giving it a try again sometime as the DVDs are out (at least season 1 and part of season 2, while the other part has yet to be released due to not enough sales of the first set. : ( ) in box set form. If you enjoyed Batman the animated series which I did as well, you would most likely start to appreciate Gargoyles for what it is. I think it is important to start from the beginning of the story though, or else nothing makes sense. I'd be curious to know what you think of it should you ever give it another shot.
Gargoyles was indeed marketed as a kids show, but the elements of it are quite a bit more in depth that I think kids could get one thing out of it while adults would get something completely different. Especially since it has so much to do with shakespearean lore and legend and the quest to exact revenge upon your enemies, and in one respect several characters do in fact get their revenge by means of killing their opponent or mark which is unheard of for a Disney cartoon. One thing I always liked about the show what that the characters were not always so clear cut white and black as many of them are an enigma to understand completely. The voice acting was also top-notch voiced by Keith David (Spawn, Arbiter (Halo series), UPS Narrator) and several of the Star Trek series/Star Trek Next Generation cast.
But that's all I'll say about Gargoyles as this is the wrong thread to be talking about it. I'll just close by saying that I honestly find it to be the greatest animated series to have ever graced American television.
