Even without administrator privileges. I run 120x english without applocale OR admin rights fine on Win7. I haven't tested the DX8 exe, always using DX9 one.

I may be confusing it w/ some other Falcom game then. Maybe Felghana - I recall one of them needed admin rights.

Not even that Felghana ran fine for me too.

Gaah! DELACROIX! *hurls a Crimson Carnage*
Anyhow, I do have the two set for admin rights. Then again, maybe Vista is more b**chy than W7.

Try the DX9 exes. Should work, really.
Ahh, Crimson Carnage... I'll let myself cruise to the offtopic waters....
Crimson Carnage does a really short work for this boss, especially when maxed. Just go to one of the corners, above the main arena level while he's floating and you can kick the bombs to take a significant part of DCX's HP no matter what he does. This does not apply all the way during the rematch, the clockwork swords still hit you even on the edges and you need to focus on avoiding them since they're a real pain.
Also, Crimson Carnage is especially successful against both Volvor and Gil Volvor (the huge floating shielded bosses). These bombs are sufficient to send them both to scrap. The huge spider, Gil Balor is also vulnerable to these, you just need to hit his legs with the sword first to bring him down and make him expose the eye. Lastly, Rudo Lognakaiser, the second HUGE RED SWORD boss is in trouble when you use this strike: the bombs are literally the only thing to destroy that damn shield (you don't need to wait until he throws it or avoid the damn thing's trail). The shield does reappear, but trust me, with these little buggers, you can bring it down again.

You're right. Works for Ys6. Doesn't for YsF =P. Crimson Carnage works best for counters because you can counter w/o getting hit ^___^ It's also the greatest thing to combo into the regular sword combo against zombies. Here's a video I found: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOtRQsymzG4 Also, IIRC you can kill the swords for soul, but I forget where I saw that. Volvors are most vulnerable against Malice to take down the shield. Once that is out of the way, the bomb can take it out fast. But so can the spin slash, and it wastes no soul (higher score). Gil Balor is best taken out with, again, Malice, or better yet Flawed. That's correct about the shield though, so I guess Blasphemy/Hatred makes for the best combo for the boss. Well, technically Malice in snipe mode can take the shield down as well, with some effort.
