hmm... I don't think there's anyone other than Majuunun, as you probably saw in that thread about "what do you do for a living", where she talked a bit about it. And I'm looking to get in too, so... yeah, anyone got anymore stories? EDIT: looking at that thread again, it looks like wyrdwad iss also in it. I'm sure he's got some stories to tell. Right wyrd?

Well, I was thinking stories more along the lines of how you how you got to where you did and how it feels being in the industry... the good, the bad. I wouldn't want anyone here edging on the risk of loosing their job

I've gotta seriously step up my Japanese work but I guess generally the more talents and skills you can display, the better your chances. Glad to hear you're enjoying it all despite the long hours and exhaustion I don't know why, but when a person in the industry talks about working on a game literally 24/7, I just get more eager to get into their position. But the thought of programming anymore makes me queasy. And in case you are wondering, yes I am curious about what game you are working on and what you work for, but alas... I am to lazy to figure it out. Your secret is safe... with... you.

Same here. I'm completely in the same thought. I wish learning it came to me much easier than it does. Unfortunately even though my girlfriend of whom I live with is a native Japanese speaker, she speaks perfect English and we almost never use Japanese in conversation. I've tried to turn that around, but to no avail thus far.
But I hear and understand Wyrdwad in how one can get in trouble for relaying company secrets and such when working in the gaming industry. I was fortunate enough that my girlfriend has a relative who works for Namco was able to tell me a little behind the scenes information for some of their projects in strict confidence that it cannot and must not be divulged over the internet. They definitely made sure to clarify that to me that they wished to have that stuff remain in the room they were said in. : )
I hope to work in the gaming industry at some point after finishing school, but it does seem that to work within the gaming industry one does have to be extremely careful with what one says, especially over the internet.
Anyhow, glad it all worked out for you Wyrdwad and that it didn't cost you your job!

Stories eh? I worked at LucasArts for a while before they moved and I had a chance to eat lunch at the ranch George Lucas works at. Having George himself sit down right behind you would be a lot of Star Wars/Indiana Jones/Willow dorks' dream for sure.
As for *work* related stuff, hmm, I can't think of anything really entertaining *and* somewhat scandalous to some individual out there. I reserve the stories of working alongside life forms so brainless my mind aches upon the mentioning of their names for drinking nights during conventions or trade shows. It's barely been a year and I've got quite a jaded streak according to some folks who have 10+ years of experience.
I can bring my dog do the office at my current job, which is hardly an NDA violation.

I feel like I have some serious hardcore dirt on people. Like a creative director(think the head of the entire game design department) saying that designing original games is hard so he just rips off other games. That. From a "Creative" Director. *HEADGOBOOM* Most of my 1st hand stories of LOL and stupid are from this guy. I went to his personal website for a laugh...If you want to make me go from happy or any other emotion to wall smashing mad, remind me that this jackhole gets paid more than I do. Hell, remind me he's still walking this earth. Oh well. Here's my dog, a few months before his 14th birthday:

so do I It's the best I can get The Labrador version was the best selling version. But I bought Chihuahua because my brother bought Lab and my cousin bought Dachshund... I use a King Charles Spaniel, though (looks better in the game than in real life). and before anyone attacks the game... I agree it could have been a lot better, but it was still a lot of fun for a few weeks.

He's 14 human years, whelped on April 8, 1993. He gets quite a few treats but even more walks. What you can't see in the photo is how ornery his authritis is when he tries to go up stairs.
Small dogs are a mixed bag. I really hate each and every small dog in my neighborhood but I've met some that I've liked.
