I just finished watching the 1 hour series finale on FOX, and thought I would see if there were any fans here. The show became a hit while I was in Junior High, and I can't believe its already been 12 years. I'm glad FOX did a proper final episode for the series, as its always been a constant part of my weekly TV habits. I know the show had its problems, and at times it was kind of bad, but it always maintained a level of humor that kept me watching. Goodbye King of the Hill, and thanks for all the laughs!

I recently had a conversation with a friend about the show. Neither one of us really watched it other than a few occasional glimpses over the years while we were randomly flipping through channels, but we were always acutely aware of its presence due to the fact that it seemed to be on every time we were randomly flipping through channels. We both came to the conclusion that we wanted to be able to dismiss the show, to say that we understood it's style of humor and simply were not impressed. And yet it's "award-winning" status and apparent popularity left us with an uncomfortable doubt: that perhaps it wasn't the show that had something wrong with it, but that there was actually something wrong with us, that there was some hidden meaning we could not see, that the endless propane-related jokes were a mere facade which masked an ingenious multi-layered satire, that the show possessed a level of humor so sophisticated that it was simply beyond our intellectual grasp. I guess now we'll never know.

I think part of the reason my friend and I had a hard time with the show is that we couldn't quite figure out who the target audience was. Was it small town conservative-minded rural folk, who identified with the characters and situations in the show? Was it cosmopolitan free-thinking urbanites, who thought the show was mocking the absurd lives of small town conservative-minded rural folk?
Or was it small town conservative-minded rural folk, who found the show to be a humorous mockery of cosmopolitan free-thinking urbanites and their skewed conception of what small town conservative-minded rural folk were like? I DON'T KNOW. WHEELS WITHIN WHEELS!!!

I've always enjoyed watching an episode or two of King of the Hill. It's definitely one of those hit or miss kind of shows for me, but the quality moments are just that - and they make up for the lapses, I think.
What pains me most about the cancellation of the show isn't the cancellation itself, - no, things come and go - but the replacement. Seriously; The Cleveland Show? ... Why? As much as I enjoy McFarlanes two current shows - this is one that simply didn't need to happen. Could they have picked a more boring character? Does he really need to be running 3 shows? I'd rather have King of the Hill reruns.

I only started watching the show recently, when it began airing on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. I love it! I can't believe I never watched it before! It's funny and has great characters and writing.

Yep. Yup. Mhmm!
Dang, I'm gonna miss that show... I can't believe it's over with.
...The Cleveland Show? You mean that annoyingly slow-witted, boring character from Family Guy? I could never get into Family Guy (save for maybe a chuckle here and there at some of their better jokes), but could they possibly do any worse than to give that idiot his own series?! I think not!

...I had no idea the finale aired. Ugh, I wish I had known. I guess that's what YouTube is for.
But still, I'm kind of sad that it ended. I just recently got into the show, like a year or two ago, and even then I only watched it at random times. Mostly due to my lack of TV watching.
There were the not-so-funny episodes, but as I grew older, for some odd reason, the show just seemed funnier to me. I guess it could be an acquired taste. After watching the show enough, you get to know the characters, and get somewhat attached to them. Then you find humour in what they do. I don't know, I'm just babbling.
Either way, I will miss King of the Hill. Awh.
