So I guess while I'm waiting for Ys7 to come out, I'll try picking up another series. Anyone have an unbiased opinion on which of Falcom's other titles is/are the best?
Also, does JDK do the music for any of the other series? A good soundtrack will make me pick up a game a lot quicker... sort of how I got into Ys in the first place.

I've only really touched Gurumin, Zwei and one of Bandai's bastardizations of Legend of Heroes... and of those I'd have to say I liked Zwei the most. I just got my hands on Zwei proper and will be starting that up with Ys Seven on the backburner for a second playthrough, but I absolutely adored Zwei II. It's good ARPG fun like Ys with plenty of character all its own and an excellent soundtrack to back it. It's not quite as actiony-as Ys is as far as the music goes, but it's excellent stuff.

I wouldn't say Brandish, actually. I mean, experimentation with items and objects is a given, and you will get lost and confused if you don't know what you're doing. I had no clue I needed bombs or marbles or whatever... XD So I didn't make it very far.

What makes Xanadu Next so good? I watched gameplay videos and it looked kind of boring, but I could be wrong.

Heh, well... let's say that if you only saw Ouendan videos (and also didn't play it the way it should be =X), you could make a TERRIBLE mistake. xD
So many games and stuff are like that...

Also, "Sound Team JDK" is the name of Falcom's internal sound team. So, every Falcom game OST is written by them. Not to be confused with "JDK Band," which was Falcom's in-house rock band back in the 90's that occasionally performed on arranged albums. They faded away for about a decade and were revived with a new line-up of performers in '08 or so. I didn't know there were 2 JDK's technically. If they're the internal sound team, does that mean the rest of the games are as bouncin' as Ys? So far I'm starting to lean towards Xanadu... that's just a PC title, right?

Interesting... the more I hear about JDK, the more credit I feel they deserve. I think I could get into Xanadu though. The music's not as in your face but it looks well designed even sort of 'pretty'. Wyrd, when you say you guys are working on a fan translation, what does that entail? Is it just menu options or the whole kit-and-kaboodle? And not to be pushy or impatient (more curious than anything) but how far along are you on it?
As a side note, that clip made me laugh a little. Zelda has me trained to shoot every hugh eyeball I see with an arrow. It's surprising I'm not walking around town feathering people right in the peepers.

I don't dislike open world exploration in the least, Symphony of the Night and Metroid Prime are some of my favorite games ever. My problems lie with SM itself..

What makes Xanadu Next so good? It's not. XD Granted, I played it because of SUPER HIGH RECOMMENDATIONS from a lot of people on the board. It's not terrible by any means but it wasn't my cup of tea at all. Damned if I remember what I didn't like or liked about it but I'm sure I wrote about it somewhere on the board and can also dig up some journal entries about it. It was a play and forget game for me. D:

In other words, it doesn't hurt to give it a fair try. What is there to lose?
Granted, I have yet to try it myself sometime. xD

I think we all have.... but yeah, I think I will. It also occurred to me I never played Ys5 so maybe that can be on my list of shit to do.

Haha, my friends and I turn a lot of things (err... actually people) into verbs. Like Kobe Bryant had the honor of becoming a verb for what he did to that one girl.
I think the Dogi one is definitely one of the better 'uns though.

Atsushi Shirakawa is a man who used to be a member of the glorious sound team (He was actually the head composer for VM Japan and Zwei, two of my absolute favourites) and is now known as Tenmon - a big anime composer. In fact he almost always works with Makoto Shinkai who he probably met at Falcom. I've yet to hear Tenmon but it just can't not be awesome.
Apart from him and Yuzo, I don't know of any other members who have gone on to become successful in their own right.

VM Japan was his last contribution to Falcom. Went out with quite a bang, eh? (Seems all I do at this forum is bang on and on about how good it is!)
I simply must check out the anime sometime, if only for the music. I'm guessing it's all japanese.

Hey you'll never guess! I've just seen 'The Shinkai Collection' on Amazon UK! It's VoaDS and TPPIOED, but no 5 cm. But it's ridiculously cheap. And in stock! So I'm hopeful I'll be able to get my hands on 5 cm - major thanks anyway.

I know Falcom has many games on PSP, but I've only played through the Ys ones. Any other recommendations?

Since Zwei (sorry, Zwei!!) and VM and Brandish were all remade for PSP, are there definitely going to be more remakes? What if they abandon PC altogether?! Likely, or am I just talking gibberish?
