Hi Everyone, I just finished a project that I wanted to share with you all that I did as my Senior Animation thesis project in trying to combine 2D traditional artwork elements within a 3D environment. Little did I know how tedious and time consuming the process would eventually become, but in the end I think it turned out rather nicely. There's a few things I'd like to change and probably will going forward, but for now I'm excited to show the current progress of it. : ) The working title for it as of now is Project Japan. Flash Streaming VideoMov. Download Link (70 megs)The song I used is by one of my favorite classically trained traditional Japanese/opera singers/artists in Japan, Kokia from her new album, Kokia - Akiko Balance, released last September. The song, "Hana Utage", is practically made for this sequence as it talks about Japan, Japanese culture, heritage, and Springtime, with pink winds of cherry blossoms, flowers, smiling mountains and a culture that even though is living in everyday modern times, still is able to remember their roots of Japanese culture. Being very interested in Japan, and Japanese culture since I was very young, a project like this was something I felt I've always wanted to tackle and Kokia's music has always been very inspirational in my work as an artist. The two pretty much go hand in hand I think! For that reason, I guess you could say that is also sort of a tribute to Kokia's body of work. : ) -Thomas

Wow, nice job on that, Skye! Indeed, that music is incredibly pretty and soothing~, as well as your animation. Very pretty drawings in there, too. That almost felt like the intro for Legend of Mana or something. Amazing.

Thanks for your comments. Glad you liked it. Still got a ways to go on it though before I'll be completely satisfied with it though. : )
By the way, that's a hell of a nice avatar GMF. Just in time for the holidays too!

Finally watched the video with the song finally. It was amazing enough already, but with the music it becomes even more nicer? Really really nice! I LOVE how everything gets drawn out and coloured and comes to life and just...... <3! :'D Especially that one scene with that grand drawing of yours? Of the that huge temple place? That particular shot when one sees it half faded, sort of dulled out...... it literally looks real!
It's reaaaaaaaaallly amazing. :'D

Very beautiful, I couldn't move my eyes away! Even when my mom was calling for me to take my medication, my jaw was just dropped! Hell, she could've popped it into my mouth, xD

Hehe, thanks everyone. I'm very glad that so many of you enjoyed watching it! It sure did take a long time to create and I would surely love to go in and improve it further someday. If I could create more content for it, perhaps I could extend the song a bit more as well. It's a six minute long song, so.... : 0
And thanks for that link to the Artiface project, that's definitely some great stuff and I can see kind of how they did it. Surely would be interesting to try out sometime.
