Hi,
just joined here and this is my first post :-)
My Japanese RPG 'background' is: - Sudeki, - Legends of Hero, - FF I, II, VII, VIII - Tears to Tiara - Grandia 2
I just recently discoved Ys and tried out Oath To Felghana and loved it. This was, I admit, a pirated copy but I realy loved the game so I decided to support Falcom and, after quite some trouble, bought a retail version of Ys Origins (and deleted my Felghana copy).
I went with Ys Origins as I wanted to play Ys in somewhat of a 'chronological' order and Origins looked great from what I had seen.
Anyway, I received it today so I thought today would be an appropriate day to say hello.
The all-Japanese in the game does worry me a little bit as I speak and read zero Japanese but hey, issues are to be overcome :-)
Looking forward to participate in any way that I can.

Hey and thanks - I JUST loaded up Origins and one thing I already know that I would benefit from is a translation of; - the initial configuration screen, and - the Options screen that you get to in-game.
Has anyone, as far as you know, done like screen-shots of those pages with English translations for what the options are?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome darkbulb..... Always good to see new peeps on here. Hope you find/enjoy the other Ys titles in the series and get some fun out of those. Like your background of games too... Very similar for myself as well. I'm up to Ys V at the moment so any help on the 'early' Ys stuff and i'll do my best. Enjoy your quest for Ys glory (and english patches, lol)!!!

Welcome, darkbulb. By the way, I counter-recommend playing Ys Origin before Ys I & II: you would totally spoil everything from both games. And, besides, you wouldn't be able to link things from Ys III (Ys: The Oath in Felghana at least) and Ys VI, as well as Ys I & II as I just mentioned; Ys Origin is meant to be played after everything else. So, to get the most out of Ys Origin, you'd also have to save it for last. However... well, now that I told you that, feel free to choose. xD You'll have fun anyway, at least.

I was just casually reading this thread and noticed your reply Red Hairdo. I was gonna dive into Ys Origin out of impatience..... I know it might come across as 'sad' or whatever but I don't wanna spoil the Ys experience I have built up for me and my gf. Its been great so far and so intriguing for my gf who is madly in love with Ys I & II and Darm Tower! (I've been brought up on the PCE-CD stuff so please excuse any spelling issues) To darkbulb: - Take heed!

Thanks for the welcomes - AND the suggestions on in what order to play the game(s).
I will ask a total n00b question now then: I don't have any consoles - all I have is my PC. So I guess two questions;
1) Did all the Ys games come out on the PC?
2) What is the FIRST Ys games I should, according to you lot, play? (I bought the Origin one but I COULD put that aside for now. I'm REALLY loving the idea and look of these games so I want to get the most out of the storyline and game-play).
If someone could list a - for PC - order that I should play these games in I WILL hunt them down (eBay or whatever) and play in that order.
THANKS!

Hmm~ kinda wierd, but make sense to me. But what the hell i know people that they see the Lords of the Rings trilogy backwards. xDD So it's about two hobbits who magically obtain a ring from a volcano and have to moonwalk back to the Shire, while resurrecting various foul beasts and demons, all on a magical journey to return the ring to Bilbo, who in his hungry madness then gets younger, recovers Smeagle and gives him the ring so that he can throw it in a lake and become 100% normal again?

Nice work wyrdwad!! I've learnt something myself there. Much respect!!! Might be a stoopid question this.... Was there ever an Ys II for the Mastersystem, like maybe a beta or unreleased that anyone knows of? That'd be pretty awesome as I am a bit of a Sega fanboy to be honest!!

Said version of Ys II was planned and being done, but it never saw the light of the day. Same for Ys IV on Mega-CD and Mega Drive.
