Have you ever influenced someone to become an Ys player? Post your best story

I've tried, most of my friends aren't very receptive to it. One of my current roommates is interested in giving the PC titles a go. Shockingly enough he actually has Ys and Ys III for their respective Sega consoles. Whether or not he actually borrows them (my PC ones) and takes the time to beat them remains to be seen, though. I could write up my story about becoming an Ys fan, but that was Lumi's doing so I'll let her should she choose to.

I got my friend David into Oath in Felghana, once I got my disc back when I returned to Texas. I think... he had more fun watching me play Ys, if anything. He became too obsessed with World of Warcraft, so he spent his time as such: when he wasn't working, he was playing WoW. I did see him every now and then, though. That was before I whacked out and became a hermit for almost two full years.

I did indeed make someone an Ys player: myself.
Other than that, I don't think so.

I MIGHT have just the other night :-)
I was at Starbucks and was playing Ys I Complete (I'm not very far...just got the Silver Sword) and next table were two girls (yes, girls as in boob-people) and one tapped me on the shoulder (I was wearing ear-phones) and asked me if I was playing WoW. That in itself was funny but no, I told them that it was an awesome Japanese game named "Ys" that have a number of games in the series but are all tied together with a storyline.
She looked on for maybe 4-5 minutes as I noobed my way through the mine area (the 'pressure' caused me to die I think :-D).
Anyway, her comment (her friend seemed un-interested) was that she loved the graphics and how, I quote, "fast it plays" and that it's great it's from Japan (she was asian but no idea the ethnicity).
Who knows, maybe I converted one :-D

Tonight I start my attempt to get my friend I mentioned in another topic to play Ys.

That's not as uncommon around these parts as it may be in other corners of the internet. Just take a look at the regulars on this board... a good half of 'em are female. Them boob-people are everywhere, I tellsya'. -Tom I likes this place more and more Note: Man-boobs does NOT count ;-)

I've gotten a good 30-40 people on irc to play or at least try them. And hundreds of people on /v/ over the years.

Convinced one of my friends with YsF once the translation patch was released. Before that, convinced my then-roommate once Ys The Ark of Napishtim came out for the PS2, who then followed up with YsF.

I've gotten one of my closest friends hooked on Ys SEVEN, to the point where he now cites it as one of his favorite RPGs ever. Now he's skipping all over the place. x3
I've gotten another friend a bit into Origin, and another into Felghana, though he doesn't play it much, incurring my wrath numerous times.
Then again, I still have quite a few titles to play, myself.

Got my wife to play 1 & 2 Complete, Oath in Felghana, Ark of Napishtim, & Dawn of Ys. Got my friend Brandon into Oath. Haven't been able to convince him to come over & play Ark yet.

Fisson Mailed
My friend turned down my offer to get him started with Ys games in favor of working on his 4 game backlog. To which I replied that my backlog is 80+. To which he replied that his backlog is all games he actually owns right now. To which I replied same with me, a lot I have played and never finished, and a few I own and have never actually played! (well, I think I've put at least an hour into ever game I own except Metroid Prime 2. Still have never played that one)

no, I'm not really a Ys player himself, either, but I think maybe I can like them in the future and then play. but right now I just look at things and not Falcom Ys, but as I said, maybe in the future, but we'll see how it goes with it. nobody I know plays Ys games but maybe I can manage to get them to do so even though I do not do it myself? it would be totally weird and strange, but hey, you do what you do in the world's turmoil.

I was in a computer networking vocational school during HS, the teacher let us play some games when we completed our work. Managed to snag a few people away from Halo to try out Felghana and Napishtim ;[.
Tried getting my girlfriend to play, she thinks they're boring. Oh well, worth a try.

I've only gotten a few people to like the classic style Ys games. Some of them REALLY got into them (This girl I dated for awhile couldn't get into Oath or Ark but I let her borrow Mask of the Sun for SNES and she really got into it) but most not. Pretty much any of my gamer friends though, I have been able to turn on to the series through Oath in Felghana

Oh man. I was playing DoY earlier this week, and one of our friends was over, stopped in my room and was like "So this is Ys huh?" I proceeded to show him me running around and killin' some bosses in Felghana, II and Origin. Reaction? "I can see why you like these so much. You'll have to let me borrow one!" Victory.

My friend really likes Ys Seven because of the "similarity the gameplay has to Tales of Symphonia." Problem is he refuses to play through a Japanese game since he cant understand the language. Even though I told him there are guides on the net. The gameplay of Felghana, Napishtim, and classic Ys is too simple for him.
So, only way he would get into Ys is if Ys Seven gets localized. Which I am hoping that a announcement comes this year about the subject.

Funny how he finds those Ys games simple and a Tales of game not. xD Shows one doesn't know one's stuff.

I've tried getting a few friends and siblings to play one of the games but everyone seems somewhere between resistant and mildly interested. My roomate says he'll play one of the games eventually but it has to be one of the non-bumping ones. I guess that's a little too weird for him. I'm undecided whether to try to get him to play Ark or Oif.
My sister's a bit of a zelda nerd, so I bet I could transition her over to Ys with a little bit of effort as well.
