While I've been a gamer for about as far back as I can remember, I'm pretty new to Falcom -- Vantage Master Online was the first game of theirs that I've played, and it was the only one for a long time. I came across a copy of Ys VI in early November of last year and picked it up on a whim -- in the end, I really enjoyed it, and it reminded me of how much I enjoy action RPGs and how long it's been since I played them regularly.
I've been lurking here ever since (for about two months now), soaking up pretty much everything I can find about the Ys series and Falcom in general, and being tempted to import some of the games that have translation patches out for them.
I'm not sure just how much I'll be posting since I tend to be a bit shy sometimes, but it's been long enough now that I figure I might as well register and introduce myself.

Let that temptation flourish and become a reality, sir! Chronicles, Felghana and soon Origin should all be in your library! Heck, we've even got Brandish 2 done and Zwei II and Sora no Kiseki in the works! Of course, I would argue that the language barrier shouldn't separate you from any of the Ys games, but that's probably up for debate~! While you're at it, Gurumin is released in the US and also a fine title as well! But enough flowery Falcom-fangasming, welcomewelcome to you, Bugen!

Wow, someone's first Falcom game being VMO is also news to me. Interesting, I wonder just how you ended up playing THAT one, out of all Falcom games. Anyway, welcome to Ancient Land of Ys. EDIT: LOL, I actually wrote Ancient Land of Spam. XDD Now I fixed it. xDD

Thanks! Vantage Master Online being my first Falcom game was just luck, I think. I didn't have any of their console games growing up, and VMO was a free game that I heard of, and I'd heard of Falcom by then, so I gave it a shot. (...Actually, I played Faxanadu as a kid -- I forgot about that when I posted my introduction -- but I don't think Falcom actually developed that, did they?) I'd be all over Gurumin if I had a PSP -- I don't at the moment, and I'd feel iffy buying one with the backlog I have now. Still, if I eventually get one (which seems pretty likely at this point, given the games on it that have caught my attention), that'll definitely be one of the first games I pick up for it. Oath in Felghana and Ys I & II Complete are the two main games I was thinking of importing -- Oath because it seems pretty similar to Ys VI (which I thoroughly enjoyed) and I & II Complete because it's where the series began (or a polished-up version thereof, anyway -- but I might check out the TG-16 version first, to see how I feel about its battle system.) Zwei II (...I wonder what Germans call that game...) also looks really fun, and the way the translation patch is coming along looks promising. I'd rather not play games in Japanese, even though I'll gladly read impressions of them and get excited about them. I have a lot of games to play through already, and I'd rather play through one whose text I can understand than one whose text I can't -- even if it's not strictly necessary to play it, the fact that I'm missing out on what's being said would bug me. Plus, a lot of the charm in Ys VI for me was in the townspeople's dialogue (since most RPGs don't give that much attention to the minor NPCs), and even if I could play the game without it, it wouldn't really be the same.

It was long enough ago that I don't remember how I came across it, but I really wouldn't be surprised if that was it.
And I'm glad to be here! You seem like a really cool group of people, and I don't doubt that I'll enjoy my time here.

A very quick but excitable HELLO! I too have the 'Shy bug' and glad to see your Ys knowledge is improving... Me personally...? I got Ys I through IV all in my head now! I am close to being a fan! I'm having to play Ys V Expert slowly slowly as my GF is wanting to try and work out the japanese (lol... No chance!) Good luck on your Ys journey!

Hi hi! Thanks for adding me to your backloggery and have fun on the forums! I know I am, lol. Also, for the love of god DON'T STOP playing Dragon Quest IV until you've finished it. I just WISH I could finish the bonus chapter now...I stopped because it was hard and needed grinding, and then it got traded in...and yeah. Dragon Quest IV is probably my favorite game in the series so far (really waiting for DQVI, since Japan finally got it this month.)

I wasn't really planning on dropping it... it's been a little while since I've played it, but I think I'm fairly close to the end, so I don't want to drop it at this point.
I'm going on a trip in a few days, though -- the airplane ride will no doubt be a good time to keep playing.
(I don't play portable games as much as I used to, since I do most of my gaming at home nowadays. If I still had that long commute by train that I did a few years ago, I'm sure I already would've beaten it.)

Chapter 5 is the bonus chapter, right? OH WAIT, no, Chapter 6 is the bonus chapter. Chapter 5 is the main storyline, lol. GANBARE, BUGEN-KUN!!! You must beat Chapter 5 at least...the bonus chapter is cool but takes WAY too much grinding. It DOES however give the story a much happier ending than the original, so it's worth it.
*hugs DQIV*
That game is my best friend. Part of it is Hyadain's doing...I'll link those tomorrow if you haven't seen them. He does remixes with really funny lyrics (try and find them with translations) for video game music and has a whole series of DQIV stuff that makes the characters extra enjoyable. Check it out on youtube. I'm too sleepy to look them up now, lol.

I've seen them -- they're pretty great! (Thanks for mentioning it, though -- I hadn't noticed a few of the English-subtitled ones 'til now.)
I'm not sure whether or not I'll end up playing through the bonus chapter, but I'll be playing through the main game for sure. (Grinding tends to bug me -- but I'll stick it out to the end of the main game, though, at least.)
