DQTranslations finally finished their long awaited English Patch last night, and have released it to the public.

That's awesome, except my computer is too weak to run the PS2 emulator, my PS3 is a slim, and I don't own a PS2.

That is amazing to hear! Even more so for an ignorant like I, since I had no clue that a translation was even being worked upon. So seeing this post of yours is like seeing an extra happy surprise.



....Ehem. I'm saying this but I still haven't found the time to even play the DS remake. I wonder when I'll find the time to finally get to this? X'D

I would've been more excited if the DS version wasn't already out. It's the same game, except.......flat. I have to be honest though, it's still nice to be surprised by finished patch being released.

Just to remind y'all, v1.2 is out! Play it! It's awesome! Much better than that DS crap! (I've never actually played the DS version, but hey, you can't comare a DS with a PS2!)

I loved the DS version. And Pankraz is a much better name than Papas. I would still have liked to try this version, though, but I was more than pleased with what I got.

The PS2 patch is friggin' sweet dude. I ate that game up.

Yeah, I can imagine. But I don't have a PS2 anymore, and my PC is far too weak for that PS2 emulator.

Yeah, but Papas was his name in the Japanese version. The problem with the DQ translations nowadays is that they tend to rename every single name for the sake of renaming them, even if the names already fit. And most of those renames are puns.

Sometimes there are more better ways than following the original translation religiously.

Oh, I have no problem with name changes and what have you. I don't mind Papas being turned into Pankraz, although I did find it strange that they took a pun and turned it something that wasn't a pun, which is what pretty much the opposite of what the other name changes were.

My biggest gripe is when they change names that are already English into something else. Besides that, if you play DQVIII and compare it to V and IX, not every single name is a pun. I'm more about striking a happy balance between the two.

'Pankraz' sounds like a spin on 'pancreas' to me. No clue if that's a fitting pun, though. :V

Don't quote me on this, but I believe it means something along the lines of "all powerful", which is technically what he is (in the hero's eyes).

That wouldn't bother me personally, since I fell for the game's guilt-tripping and picked Bianca. >_>

I would have picked her regardless, but man, the game begins laying on thick when it's decision-time.

I picked Bianca when I played the SNES fan translation. For the DS version, I went with Debora. Next game will be Nera, obviously. Actually, I felt tempted to pick her instead of Debora when the big decision came, but I stuck with my instincts. lol
