I am still struggling to understand if Apple's announcement of the iPad was real..or a joke.. Jobs came out slamming the Netbook phenomena saying they were not 'the best at anything' and was essentially not a worthy 'between-smart-phone-and-laptop'-tool. Instead..he introduces a tablet that... 1) Can not multi-task. Example: You can't listen to Pandora while you write your emails, etc. 2) Doesn't even have a USB port 3) No SD card slot 4) No wide-screen support You are stuck reverting back to 4:3 format 5) No HDMI-TV out for the movies you may store on it. 6) NO FLASH SUPPORT Means, for instance: No flash games..and No Hulu 7) Proprietary Apple iTunes Application directory. Yup, locked in. 8) For the more expensive model...AT&T coverage Lol? 9) A fugly black, thick border around the screen (Could have been a border you enable-de-able for movie-watching or when you are holding it). 10) Etc...etc...etc. I mean, where was Mobile OSX? Where was the innovation that Apple is famous for? This design must have taken what - 45 seconds? I'm still at a loss...was it a joke? Best Twitter comment I read: "Free iPad to any current iPhone users: Just hold your phone closer to your face". :-)

I got no idea about what that iPad is. xD I ought to research that later.
P.S.: I'm not a fan of the iPhone, though I got nothing against it either. xD
Off: Gotta sleep ..... zzzzzzzzzzzz

iPad is a joke. It's even worse than the MacBook Wheel that appeared on Onion News Network last year

Far as I'm concerned, Apple's nothing more than flashy gadgetry. They've got products that work okay, do fun and silly little things and come wrapped up in some slick and shiny designs. A very extreme case of an advertising success story - Ican't deny that they know what they're doing when it comes to marketing. But the iPad? Nevermind all the issues here, I'd still disregard it as not worth my time.

Lord, Apple can put out just a shell of the thing and people will buy it.
Heck, with those specs, it might as well BE just the shell. >_>

Oh lord. I heard about this silly damn thing at class earlier this week. I know so many people at school and a couple in my family who are hardcore Apple addicts.
Sure, it looks neat-- but the fact that the starting price rings up to $500 USD makes me go "so how much does it cost to buy one that DOES something?"
Reading all that? Sounds like it costs nothing because it doesn't yet exist. XD

I don't get all the hate, it's just a iPod touch that's larger. Did ipod touch suck? no, everyone thought it was fucking great for the most part.
Make it bigger and suddenly it's the worst thing ever? Way to hop on a bandwagon people.

I never liked the iPod Touch, either. But at least the iPod Touch can fit in your pocket, giving it the advantage of portability. That was essentially the ONLY advantage it had. Now, Apple is essentially just marketing it again, but without the portability that made it arguably worthwhile in the first place. -Tom Say essentially once more, I dare you. This thing is dumb, but I'm super bias agains iPod and such.

Well if you hated the ipod touch then at least your hate is consistent, I doubt that applies to the majority of people bandwagon hating on this thing.
Only real reason anyone seems to hate it is because the rumor-mill made all kinds if speculations on this being some revolution new tablet device...
Apple never claimed that, infact their press conference was the only thing they've said.
Basically it seems like people let rumors hype them up for a product that didn't exist, and now they're mad because they didn't get it? lol

Basically it seems like people let rumors hype them up for a product that didn't exist, and now they're mad because they didn't get it? lol You've mentioned 'bandwagon' twice and not sure what you mean. I think it's apparent to most people that the tablet is missing a LOT of functionality that could had made it really interesting. I don't care what people thought the tablet was going to do/be - all I know is what it ended up being and it's far from a product that I know I would consider purchasing. So you can skip that "only real reason" and "bandwagon". I'm perfectly capable as an IT Manager to read a spec sheet and make up my own opinion. It didn't make things better either that Jobs started the keynote slamming the netbooks saying that they were not best at anything...but that HERE we got something that will give a superior internet browsing experience. How anyone can claim that a product will give me a superior internet browsing experience on a device where I can't go to Hulu, NYT for news, etc, etc is beyond MY understanding. But it doesn't really matter - Apple fanboys will disregard specs and facts and buy the product for other reasons. In the end. to each his own.

Huh, from what I read here, it seems this was Apple's equivalent of Sony's PSPGo. xD
I still would like to do a bit of researching on this matter, though... So if anyone got any trustworthy, decent link(s) that may shed some light on the details, I'd be glad if it was posted. xD If not, I'll just hop on the Google boat. xD
EDIT: The engrish... it's slowly seeping into my mind. xD

Huh, from what I read here, it seems this was Apple's equivalent of Sony's PSPGo. xD Except instead of making it smaller, it's bigger! XD!!! But then, given what it's supposed to do, making it tinier than the Touch would have been mighty weird. ^^ And I'm indifferent to Apple and its products. I own a first gen shuffle and a 3rd gen iPod and love poking around on Mac Books at the Apple Store. I just think the iPad is a little on the goofy side as it lacks stuff.

I didn't watch the big unveiling press conference, but to me it looks like it's supposed to compete with the Amazon Kindle and the other e-book readers that are starting to come out. The problem is, the Kindle was made with one specific purpose in mind (reading books) -- this dictated facets of its design (like its size), and the reason it's getting to be so popular is because it does what it's designed to do much better than anything else did before.
The Kindle wasn't exactly revolutionary -- Sony had e-book readers for several years before the Kindle made its debut -- but since they put a lot of thought into how to make it work and marketed it right, it's seen as something revolutionary. It's the same thing that Apple did with the iPod Touch (I say this as someone who had a Windows Mobile PDA several years ago and absolutely loved it) and the iPhone, and even the original iPod.
Since what put Apple in the place they are today is in that "seeing the potential of the technology and refining it to make something amazing", I'm kind of surprised that they would drop the ball like this. It's about the size of a netbook, but with even less functionality and usefulness. It's like the Kindle, but I doubt it'll have the amazingly sharp display or killer battery life. It doesn't actually seem to be designed for anything in particular -- or even useful for anything in particular. In short, it has features -- a big screen, an iPhone-style app store -- but they don't actually come together in any way that makes it worth having, as far as I can tell, and therein lies the real problem with it.
