If I knew them all, I would have made it a poll. But honestly, there are probably a lot of shows, and some of you probably don't watch television, so the winner would likely only have 2 votes.
Nevertheless! Here is a spot to voice your opinion and share your discovery with others. But you must say why you like the show.
Then, I will start. I think Pushing Daisies is the best new show.
Background:
The premise is that Ned is able to bring things back to life just by touching them. However, if he touches them a second time, they go back to being dead, but permanently this time (i.e., he can't revive something more than once). One caveat applies: if a dead thing is brought back to life for more than one minute, something else nearby has to die. Ned discovered these rules as a child, through events that caused him to revive his dog and revive and then kill again his mother, but not before a minute, leading to the death of the father of his childhood sweetheart (and neighbor, Charlotte Charles a.k.a., "Chuck").
So what does Ned do with his power? Aside from keeping the fruit fresh in his pie shop ("The Pie Hole" ), he works with a P.I. friend to solve murder cases for the rewards by interviewing the victims. Things become complicated when Ned discovers that Charlotte has been murdered, and he brings her back, but isn't able to touch her again.
Opinions:
Pushing Daisies is very colorful. I don't mean the euphemism, I mean it literally. I really like the surreal style of the scenery. The humor is dead on (no pun intended), as well. It's sarcastic and witty, if a little dry. In fact, it reminds me a little of Douglas Adams' humor. The romance between Ned and "Chuck" might be a little too happy and thereby nauseating to some of you, but I find it to be rather cute and sweet.
The cast of characters interacts well. They may be a little stereotypical and predictable for some of you, but they are all still likable in my opinion. I particularly like Kristin Chenoweth as Olive Snook, who works with and pines away after Ned. (I really loved her character in The West Wing as well. I don't know if it's her diminutive stature, her adorable accent, or something else, but she's just so watchable.)
A friend of mine expressed a concern that the premise might get stale rather quickly, but the first three episodes seemed to keep new revelations and discoveries coming. The show is partly episodic in that each episode so far has been a new case, independent of prior episodes. However, like most shows these days, the relationships between the characters persists, and you really need to watch every episode to keep track of who knows what about Ned's secrets.
Bottom Line:
It might not be for everyone, but any fans of offbeat dramedy (I know I've heard someone here praise Dead Like Me) should really check this out.
Edit: I forgot pictures!
