So a few days ago Windows Vista did its normal overnight update garbage and I watched a couple videos that night, namely House on Hulu and some youtube stuff, and I noticed that everything sounded kinda crackly! But, the internet was being slow as all hell that night too, so I just thought that was the problem. Turns out it's not. Internet's been running like a well-oiled machine since, and I still have this issue.
I can't listen to anything without there being this obnoxious volume-level change induced crackle every few seconds (meaning unless what I'm listening to is fairly monotone, I hear this noise incessantly), and it really makes everything completely unlistenable. This isn't 1960 damnit. >_>
So like. Updated drivers on my Creative SB Auidgy soundcard, tried to system restore but the computer apparently hasn't been keeping any restore points beyond 12 hours (FUCK YOU!), tried moving the sound card to a different slot, tried reinstalling it altogether... nothing is working. And I am frustrated. Very much so.
Anyone have any idea? >_<
Edit: Oh, and the onboard sound is incompatible with Vista/7. So yay.

Hmm, kind of sounds like the problem I was having a couple months ago after upgrading the computer, where anything I tried to record sounded terrible. Someone on another forum was kind enough to show me their solution by messing around with the computer's volume control settings, so here's a link to that, but keep in mind this is for a Realtek HD Audio driver, so it may not work for you (plus my problem was with newly recorded files). Still, it can't hurt to try.

Yeah sometimes i think that microsoft won't solve all their problems one reason: marketing strategies, they obligate you to support them on the way of buying again their products... second... why companies like this ones should care about this kind of bugs... well let me tell you something that happened me: like 2 years ago i fucked up a laptop, while downloading i don't know what, but suddenly happens one big surprise... my computer got a virus and i had to say 5 words to say: NEVER BELIEVE IN NORT*N ANTIVIRUS this product is just commercial, and really, that thing called "protection" doesn't works well... well when i repaired with a lot of efforts and learned lots of things happens this... 3rd point i have this acer aspire 5610, a good computer, but when repaired it i decided to update windows media center edition from sp2 to sp3 and you know what... yeah the destiny plays a lot with our fatidic lifes the shit get fucked again, well when i was researching on microsoft web site the "wises" said that this bug happens and you need the back up disk, but most of the people had it in their computers, *disk D*, so why should they care in this "obsolete" OS... there are persons who weren't able to fix this problem and due of this cause they had to buy a new computer... I had luck because my father found in this moment a backup disk... and im reinstalling it again succesfully... the point is... I HOPE THERE'S luck for you... im serious bro i really wish it, i hope there's no more problems with this bugs caused by the updatings... is really... just frustrating

I thought there was a problem like that before and there has been a Vista hotfix? Maybe it's for a different soundcard. Still, I'd search the hotfix database to see if it's what you need if I were you.

I shall look into that, thanks. I'm not surprised if it is an old issue, 'cause apparently that update it just did was older than dirt. Today it installed SP 1 and 2 for Vista, 2 being published in July of last year? I thought I had this set up to auto install updates, but I guess it wasn't. Lawls. :/

Did you read the "readme's" before installing the updates? Because I'm sure I saw the solution to your problem somewhere on there.
