For everything not related to my li'l mini epic and because I know at least two folks here don't mind it.
Nightfall
Slowly falls the setting sun,
Painting the world scarlet and gold...
Quietly night has begun,
In a starry embrace does it all enfold.
Wandering pearl of silver,
The moon shines down;
A silvered ribbon becomes the river,
Wending through our quiet town.
A wolf begins its lonesome song,
As sleep visits every door;
The lights fade before long,
Sending the people to dream's shore.
Only I defy sleep's call,
To watch this wondrous sight....
The beauty of the night's fall,
A time of darkness and yet so filled with light.

And now for a piece requiring some mild explanation: this 'song/poem' is told from the perspective of a bard who had something of a Rip van Winkle experience...he 'awoke' years later to find his friends long departed and only a few (and in his case; unwanted) familiar faces still around. Standing at his friends' graves he ponders which would be easier: forgetting or clinging to the memories. (he's a bard- they ponder long-winded style. nuff said.)
Cellan's Lament
Gently falls the pale snow;
Silvering the trees and ground...
Blanketing all traces of the past from my mind...
Embracing the world in soothing white,
Garbing it in memoryless silver;
Oh how I wish the past were so easy to hide...
How I wish it could so vanish.
My dear friends, where have you gone;
Leaving me behind in the cold and dark...
Nothing but the snow for my comfort,
Shielding where you rest from my eyes.
Did you forget me before the day was gone;
Was I only a memory to you?
I stand here and wonder at a loss;
Are those days truly gone?
Gently falls the glittering snow,
Making all the world so bright...
Yet offering no comfort to a lonely heart.
I bid you farewell, gentle friends...
I bid you fair rest in the summerlands;
Perhaps one day I shall see you again...
But for now I must stay in dark, frozen lands.
One day we will walk together and speak again;
I will tell you the tales I have lived...
But for now your tales are the ones I tell,
To offer hope in a world grown dark.
Grant me your strength one more time,
Show me how to continue alone...
If the memory will not fade then let it guide.
Let me keep that shadow of you....
The smothering snow has fallen,
Silence stifles the air all around...
Farewell, my friends, until my time has come.
