I've been meaning to make this thread for a while, but I kept ... not doing it? So here it be!
I loves me some webcomics. Not that I usually think any of them are particularly funny, but I do enjoy amusing distractions. The ones that I like the most are probably more art/story oriented, though, and I'm always on the lookout for more stuff to artgasm at.
So like, what do you chaps read?
Dresden Codak
I'm not even sure how to describe this. It's so beyond words. Super-fantastical sci-fi nerdmathscience ... stuff. He updates rarely, but so many of his strips merit multiple readings to grasp everything he wove into the page, and sometimes even a trip over to wikipedia to see what school of psychology he's referencing that you've never heard of. It's really fascinating. Oh, he's a good artist, too.
Dan Kim's various stuff
Dan never updates because he hates himself or something. But goddamn if he doesn't have a knack for drawing some of the most mindblowing stuff. Sadly, he leaves like, every project he starts unfinished with the exception of Paper XI, which is pretty neat.
Girly
Slightly NSFW, though not nearly as bad as his other stories, like Dr. Voluptua. More story-centric than it used to be, though, I certainly don't mind. It's cute, and there are actually a fair number of lols to be had if you read through the whole archive. Josh has another tiny little strip he very very rarely updates with called The Puppy Club that I totally recommend, too. It's adorable.
xkcd
I just read this 'cause it's funny sometimes.
Sinfest
Probably the only true "comic-strip"-style comic that I actually like anymore. Tat doesn't pull any punches, and I really admire that. The cast he's created is very fun, too, and I like that despite being a strip, he does develop them quite a bit.
Penny-Arcade
I just read this 'cause it's funny sometimes. I love it when they branch out and do other stuff, though. That Lookouts subseries they started last summer is magical.
3 Panel Soul
I just like Ian McConville's art. I've been following him for probably a good 5 or 6 years now. This is his old comic: MacHall
Maliki
Ian always links to comics/artists he finds and likes, and this was one that I was particularly entranced by. It's in french, but the art is so damn good that I usually take the time to type each speech bubble into Goodle Translate so I can read it, haha.
Hark! A Vagrant
Historical silliness (and some other stuff, too!). This is ALWAYS a fun read. It's both educational and hilarious.
Gunshow
Good for a laugh. The Anime Club subplot is especially hilarious.
The Meek
I don't remember how I found this, but as soon as I started reading I was absolutely sucked into the world he created. To say nothing of his lineart and writing itself: he use of color and attention to detail therein is amazing.
Boxer Hockey
I admittedly started reading this because someone linked me those silly Sonic the Hedgehog comics he made. The root of Boxer Hockey is an original story, though, and it's pretty silly and fun.
Drowtales
I've admittedly never taken the time to catch up on this one, but I've been keeping up with the chapters since I started following it. They've created a fun world, and the art is quite pretty. <3 their use of color.
Lackadaisy
I just found this a couple weeks ago and swiftly devoured every page she's written. The art is nothing short of amazing, and the plot is so damned good and full of wit and charm. It follows a 1920s prohibition era speakeasy... RUN BY CATS. If I recommend anything on this whole list, it's this one. For reals, it's just that good.
Minus
Minus is a webcomic that I don't actively read because it actually ended! It's absolutely charming, though. It's about a little girl who can literally do anything she wants.
