I don't know if I'm ready to pay Falcom prices for a game again just yet so I don't think I would buy it directly from them, but I see a bunch of relatively cheap copies on auction sites. Vantage Master Online is pretty fun, but they also give it away for free. What's new in Portable? Is it improved enough to be worth paying for or should I stick with the free PC client?

Hard to tell. For some reason I had more fun with VMO than VMJ and VMP, but I guess it's due to the language barrier.
VMP is quite pretty and runs SUPER smoothly, though. You might like it, but I can't ensure it. Try seeing some videos and checking VMJ first? Or better yet, try to literally download a copy just to try it out, see whether you like it or not, then decide?

Eh, I already have a version of VM that I can only play at home, and it was free. I'll probably pass on Japan. Portable actually does look really nice though, and I like that there are Sora no Kiseki characters too. I'll miss playing as Jurio&Chris and Adol, but I'll live

Here's a good guide for VMJ, even though it's titled Vantage Master Online. I find VMJ even more difficult than VMO!

Oh, I didn't realize VM Japan was that different. I'll look into it more, I actually really do like the soundtrack from what I've heard. I already ordered Portable but if Japan is really good too then I'll probably get that as well.

I was wondering if any of you could help me with something. I bought VMP recently as I am a fan of Online but wanted a portable version.
I don't understand Japanese but thankfully most things are easy to decipher, especially having played Online.
However, on the main menu, when you select "scenario", it gives you three options. The third is to load a game, but I'm confused by the other two. When you choose either of these two, it comes up with the same options "normal" or "hard". So what's the difference between them? I know in Online you have the option to choose a setting where the AI makes more mistakes. Is it something to do with that?
I just want to make sure I am playing with the hardest, optimal settings.
Cheers
