Hello there!
I've been stuck lately trying to find a new "japanime" like game for the PC. I'm not interested in purchasing a new system like PS3, XBOX360, Wii, or any handhelds.
I have all the Ys games, Phantasy Star Onlines, Final Fantasies, as well as emulators for most systems.
I'm just wondering if there are any games along the scope of Final Fantasy, Ys, Phantasy Star that have similar gameplay and graphics, and are in English?
Not really interested in RPG Maker type titles..
Thanks!

Welcome!! Frane or Wander Wonder might be up your alley. Frane isn't translated yet, but there IS interest in the Frane community for a translation. There's a translator, but a hacker is needed. I've heard nothing of a Wander Wonder translation. So all things considered, I really couldn't help you out. There IS a topic for Ys-like games, however. Ys : Similar games?Perhaps you'll have better luck there? Good hunting, thanks for posting, and once more, welcome to the forums!! Where did your avatar come from? Did you make it?

Hey thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, I've already seen that thread (I've been lurking this board for years) and I have played all those games they have mentioned, aside from the japanese ones.
I got my avatar from faceyourmanga.com
I'm currently trying to play "The Last Remnant" by Square-Enix for Windows, but Im not completely satisfied. Why does the PS3 and Japan get all the cool games? And why haven't there been any JRPGs coming out for the PC? Consoles seem to get all the love..
meh

People loving JRPGs on the PC on this side of the world are in the minority ... which equates to not enough interest for companies to justify localizing them for the computer market. I'm not sure this is going to change any time soon even with download services such as Steam.
I mean, what do people play on PCs? FPSs, MMORPGs, RTSs, and Farmville????
Also, I believe the PC market isn't exactly hot in Japan either so companies probably aren't really developing for that platform much anyway. :\ Look at Falcom -- they were sort of "forced" out of making games for Windows.
So, my friend, it's time to get a PSP (if you don't already have one)!!!!!!!!!

MP83 Thanks for the welcome. Nice icon btw. heh @nukou I guess this is a disappointing fate I must come to terms with.. I'm not a big fan of handhelds though, as I'm approaching 30 and I'd feel like a 10 y.o on his 8bit green lcd'd gameboy heh.. unless.. is there a way to hook up the PSP to the big screen? Then I might reconsider..

Heavy Metall FAKK 2 What I play is Kalleria right now, via Mame 39. PS3 is basically the SNES and you know the RPG people. However the Japanese see videogames no differnt then comic books, while most people in the west are you know. However all that is changing, in the west. All we need is a strong restart. There are some, I found this Dragon Slayer looking game, that is brand new. I forget the name.

3000-series model PSP or a PSPgo, you can play PSP games on a standard-def TV Now you tell me. I could have played Ys Seven in comfort.

The fact that you can doesn't mean you'd want to, though -- the PSP-3000 can output games via composite video, but that doesn't mean that the results work well. The video isn't scaled up to fit the screen -- it's stuck in a somewhat small box. This is fine over a high-quality video output (like component), but composite video blurs it and adds enough artifacting that the text is kind of difficult to read and some things (like inventory icons) are hard to make out... and overall, it just makes the game look much worse.
I really ought to try some s-video cables... Things will still be tiny, but they'll probably look better in spite of it.

That's why I'll just stick to CFW. Granted I do have problems of my own, most of those are my fault. In the end, my PSP outputs to my laptop, my laptop outputs to the TV, I play the games with a PS2 controller, AND I get full-screen! Life is good!
