I'm talking about the technology in general.
I mean, the WOW factor is there if, say, a movie makes good use of it (like the credits roll during Despicable Me or the trailer for one of the Narnia films (forgot which one)). But other than that, I dunno why we have it other than for gimmicky reasons.
I'm thinking smell-o-vision (where we can smell what's going on the screen) will be the next "upgrade" for entertainment media. :P

Not if glasses play a role. Movies that force me to put glasses over my glasses are a literal pain. What it does to my vision is disorienting and by the end of the film, I have a nasty headache.
No thanks.

It is interesting tech, but I think it cheapens movie making to dumb thrills.

It's kind of cool, but pretty difficult to use as anything other than a gimmick. There's a reason that 3D has been used more in theme parks than anywhere else for so long. If given the option, I'll usually see a movie in 3D, but it's not really a big deal if I can't or don't. :p
That said, the movie industry really likes 3D because it gets people back into movie theaters again, and the electronics industry really likes 3D because they want to have some way to coax people to buy new TVs again now that they already got pretty much everyone to buy HDTVs. So, we'll probably see more of it to come whether people actually care about it or not. :p

I think I saw about 3 movies (although I can only name 2 off the top of my head) last summer in 3D and none of them really impressed me so I didn't even get any dumb thrills. :P
But I guess the problem is that the films weren't made for 3D in mind so they didn't take advantage of the effects. :\
I wonder if 3DS games will have the same sort of issue in that you can turn on the 3D effects but the game itself isn't really meant to be in 3D???
Oh yeah, about the glasses, they're always too big for me. >_> I spent the entire time holding onto the damn things.
Edit~~
Bugen: I think with more and more 3D TVs coming out and all the movies and such being in/converted to 3D, people are gonna end up staying home again. D: But I suppose, in the short term, the lure will work. XD

I'm not interested in it at the minute - most of it gives me headaches! It's not real 3D anyway, you can't see around the sides of anything or gain a different view of the action standing somewhere else, the only difference is a few things pop out. I'm sure it will develop into something interesting in the future, but right now I'm not investing any time or money into it at all.

I find it annoying because most 3D glasses don't fit well on top of my regular glasses, making the whole experience uncomfortable.
As for glass-less 3D, I hear it's a huge strain for the eyes, and mine are already pretty screwed up, so I stay away.
