...until the very end. wow way to make me want the next game falcom! lol but no honestly it was good, solid mechanics and all, I just felt like it didn't pick up fast enough in terms of story. I was actually going to stop playing and move on to another game in my backlog but I figured hell I bought it, its falcom, I may as well power through and give it a chance. I don't regret it at all, judgement must be reserved until the very end of the game for this one it seems. anyone else feel the same way? I feel the game was good but the narrative kinda dragged it down here and there. it was almost TOO rich, like the characters would just chit chat back and forth for seemingly no reason sometimes. obviously it helped build the relationships between all of them but it felt like it plodded along at times because of it. well I'm interested in hearing everyone else's thoughts on the game? and also wondering if anyone knows if SC is a little more fast paced in terms of dialogue and narration? thanks

IMO if a game doesn't hook you early on, then there are better ways to spend your time. I allow a bigger buffer for getting hooked with RPGs than action games, but there still has to be some kinda limit.
Don't ask why I look at topics marked "spoilers" for games I've never finished, but so far TitS has been bland at best. The combat has been fun, but playing TitS for the combat? Yeah.. anyhow, it's not better than the bestest funnest RPG combat by which all others shall be judged: Xenogears. At least it's enough to keep me playing the game in all of its mundane glory and telling from the topic there might be a light at the end of the tunnel that'll actually make me give a shit about things going on in the TitS world

I'd just say stop if you're not enjoying it - it's meant to be entertainment, not a chore to be endured. People not liking things other people do is one of the reasons the world is so interesting

I may be holding it up to an unfair comparison though, it seems a fairly niche sort of RPG. Like to really enjoy it you'd need a great interest in attention to detail - and the play was good, but I didn't feel the game ramped up in interest level until near the end of the Zeiss chapter. The final chapter was good and all, but I don't know. The twists were good when they happened, but it seems like they were either too few and far between, muddled down by the excessively long cutscenes sometimes.
I don't know, overall at the end I think it ended on the perfect note to make me want to see more of the story, but it took a long time to build up to that point. I have high hopes for SC though, as it seems with the main storyline now being "free from border restrictions the hunt for joshua is on" seems like itll make for a much more quicker paced storyline.. not to mention the ouroborous or whatever they were called.
Well here's hoping. Have you guys played SC? You must have, right Wyrd?

SC is just brilliant, easily my favourite in the series and one of the best RPGs I've ever played <3
But it is very much in the same style as FC so YMMV.

Well, that too. But it sounds like Schlag still senses the POTENTIAL to like the game... and it would be unfortunate if he dropped it, only to learn that ultimately he'd end up really enjoying it. -Tom Yeah I don't hate the game and I intend to keep going with it (especially during the upcoming memorial day weekend). So far I've just been underwhelmed by the story and characters

Different players have different views on this issue. I feel the same way as you. Side quests are fun, but there're so many that makes me somewhat forget what I'm doing in main story sometimes. Besides, i think NPC's dialogs are kind of tedius, though some players may love it because they prefer warmer atmosphere in RPG. I love its battle system very much though.

Honestly, the cutscenes and random chatter are some of the things I enjoyed most about the game. It added personality, and the dialogue was always greatly entertaining to read because it's so well-written and the characters are so charming. Not many games have made me actually laugh out loud. But Trails did. Not to mention all the dialogue for checking opened chests! But that's just my two pence, so...

I find the empty treasure chest text to be the worst part of the translation. First off, they directly reference the player in the 2nd person while none of the rest of the game does so so it breaks the atmosphere. Second I find the content of the writing to come off as forced attempts to try to sound witty, and it fails. Third... even harder to try to come off as witty when they start repeating.
Thankfully you can skip them completely. That's prolly the best thing about them!

Fine, Captain Pedantic, the empty treasure chest text is the worst part of the localization.

-- most likely the first game XSEED will release that's been fully translated by me -- I thought you translated and edited Ys SEVEN and Chronicles?

Thanks for clearing that up. Was chronicles based on Deuce's Complete(PC) script, like Felghana was based on his PC script, or was it redone using the Japanese PSP script? To me it seems like the former but maybe they were the same script in Japanese. I'm not criticizing the localization at all just curious.

Thank You It's interesting that Felghana got more press for using a fan translation then Chronicles did. I guess the Felghana patch was a little more "high profile" than the Complete patch.

they directly reference the player in the 2nd person while none of the rest of the game does so so it breaks the atmosphere. This appears to be more common than you'd expect. Take a look at the tvtropes page if you have a little time. They've got a few good ones I remember in there...my favorites they list are out of Jak 3 (granted, that series is full of this sort of drivel...so I can see your point in a way). I suppose this type of humor doesn't work for everyone, but this game and its relatively lighthearted atmosphere seems more conducive to it than, you know, something darker. Not to say it's not dark...maybe the game would feel more serious if Estelle was not such a ditz...
