Proposed Rankset for Ancient Land of Ys Forum

Greetings. I hope this is a thread that will not be ignored, given what I have put into it.

Being as my site specializes in ranksets for info. sites, forums, SIMMs and other places, I finally got around to making one for ALoYHA.



I had an annoying time trying to find 'anything' I could use as a basis point for rank images... until I came across the wacky idea of using swords that Adol collects through the first two Ys Games. I included in the following order

Lv.1 - Short Sword
Lv.2 - Long Sword
Lv.3 - Tarwarl
Lv.4 - Defender (DS Version)
Lv.5 - Hyper Cutter
Lv.6 - Battle Sword
Lv.7 - Flame Sword
Lv.8 - Silver Sword
Lv.9 - Cleria Sword

Currently, I do not have any designs for Moderators, Admin, etc., but that does not mean I am not interested or unwilling to make more to further expand this set.

Where is the sword art from? I just realized that the Battle Sword and Cleria Sword match perfectly to the bonus swords in the 2nd Ys Figure Collection
Was always wondering where they got the designs for the figure's swords...

I looked around online for the swords from Ys 1 & 2. A couple japanese sites had very small images of them (one had 64 x 64 images. One was like 70 x 110) I also have the games for PSP and DS. Give how the swords are of different proportions from the original and given how the originals are always portrayed on angles, and given how I lack the equipment for it, 'ripping' them was not possible anyway. Regardless of if I chose to rip them or not, I would have sprited them myself and that is what I did! *nod nod*

Well you did a good job with 'em. Sometime when I'm not packing to move I'll have to snap a pic of the swords from the figure collection and show you.

Looks nice. My only concern is that such a system could encourage spamming (more so than usual, that is ). With the current system, you just get various titles, something that almost everyone seems to pay no attention to.

Anyway, my suggestion for the admin would be the Black Pearl. Sure, the games kind of portray it in a negative light, and that would be a good reason not to use it for this situation, but it doesn't seem "evil" in and of itself.

Umm... no. I have no problems with the admins/mods. I just meant that if the general perception of the Black Pearl was that it's something evil (again, which I'd argue), it may not be the best choice for an image, especially since the admins/mods will be the ones that decide whether or not to implement this. Surely they wouldn't do it if they thought it made them look bad.

Does sound like an interesting take on what you are thinking. Moving the goddesses up and into the middle of the rank image with a super health bar below could help?

Oh, you know I'm totally bad! As for the Black Pearl, it wasn't inherently bad and works well as a symbol of power. If it weren't for the Black Pearl, Adol wouldn't have had the power to defeat most of the bosses in Ys II.

That could work out pretty well. Another possibility for a mod/admin image is one of the priests of Ys. The main drawback with that, though, is that they're originally all males... Anyway, just throwing some ideas out there.

These are amazing!

The only real problem I see is the one MP83 mentioned - it's up to FM-77, not us, whether they get used or not. Excellent work anyway, I'd kill to have half of your spriting talent.

Oh, I understand what you mean. Running a couple forums myself, I can relate to what you mean.

I will give that Black Pearl idea a try and see how it turns out.

Kuro, those really are nothing short of amazing work! I hope that they do get used, even if it encourages post count and spam. But as long as there is enough moderation to determine what is spam and what isn't, I don't think that would be much of a problem. Btw, I love the idea of Game Over being for banned users. That's really kickass! : )
