For a long time now, I've heard that Mask of the Sun has had some unused music in its data. Does anyone know anything what tracks were found?

First time I've heard of it. I know one of its songs was a JDK piece that somehow didn't make it into Dawn of Ys (the Iris Tower BGM) but I've never heard anything about unused music in the code.

There actually are a few tracks like so. Deuce's now-gone site listed them.
Never got to listen to them myself.

Oh, I know about those. I was talking about music that was actually in the memory of MotS. Supposedly Falcom's Bronze District was in there? I don't even know if this is real or not, but it's something I swear I heard a couple years back here. Red Hairdo here seems to be talking about the same thing as me, but I don't see anything related to that on Deuce's archived site.

Bronze District in particular is actually used in MotS, in... the Bronze District. Though it was one of those Ys IV SFC exclusives, and I have heard the exclusive-to-MotS tracks are likely owned by Tonkinhouse instead. There were a few of these in fact. The only exception to this, as MP83 pointed out to me recently, is that "Tower" track, which was used in SFC's Iris (pronounced "ee - rys") Tower. Funnily enough, it's labelled as "unused" on that Ys IV CD MP83 specified, which personally makes me think it further shows greater likelihood that Ys IV - The Dawn of Ys was indeed the original canon Ys IV game (as in, used to be the canon one in the past): The soundtrack in particular doesn't specify any Ys version anywhere, and the track is unused in Ys IV DoY, as well. Also, as for the unused tracks... now that I think about it, those 3 tracks are likely NOT there on Ys IV SFC's data: I downloaded a music rip of the game, and these 3 tracks don't appear there at all. Nor do any track not normally playable in the game. So that makes me believe there's no actual unused music data, but instead just... unused Ys IV music to begin with.

That's because SFC rips can be done via an emulator, and some SFC rippers rip via the emulator. In other words, unused tracks can be harder to come by. Utilizing Game Genie / Game Shark codes, you may be able to hear the unused tracks. This is just a theory of mine. A New Theory.

Hm... could be. ... there must be so many unused data out there in all the many Ys games out there.
