Hi, When I try to install either of these games on Win7 x64, I get an error that looks something like this: i.imgur.com/ClbDb.jpgThis is a screenshot from someone else, with a different Falcom game, but it looks like it's the same issue. I'm don't understand why more people around here aren't having the same problem. HUGE EDIT: what seemed to be a strange problem with Xanadu Next moving my Windows user folder around turned out to be me confusing certain system files. Pretty dumb. Also, I managed to get both of these games working, by running Xanadu Next in Win95 compatibility mode (none of the other modes work) and editing YSO_WIN\common.ini. The only problem remaining is why neither game would install correctly in the first place. It doesn't seem to matter whether I use AppLocale; trial and error got me through the installation program, only to encounter the same error with the Application Data folder. I made sure the proper folders were created beforehand, but that didn't work. Win7 includes a folder junction for "C:\Users\UserName\Application Data" => "C:\Users\UserName\AppData", but I guess Falcom games don't like that?

As far as I know, both games were developed before Win7 and don't support that environment, so surprises are to be expected. When I tried to test my patch on Win7, I saw that the installer wasn't working. Then I tried through a sneaky way: since the files structure on DVD and on the HD are pretty much the same, I simply copied the content of the whole DVD on a HD folder. At this point everything seemed to work fine: the game, double clicking on the executable, started in japanese, the patch installer completed its job and the game started again in english. The reason why I didn't mention this as a suggested trick was that it wasn't tested enough first and then because the game saving didn't work. But if you think you're lucky you may try to install in this way and manually create the needed application folder. If this works, I'd appreciate if you were so kind to reply and give the correct advice to everybody. Bye, GHO

Well as I said, I was able to get both games working using that method. The problem then is being able to save the game, which requires the workarounds I mentioned. I just don't understand why the games don't work with the virtual Application Data folder that Win7 has for just this reason.

You simply have to manually create that folder in your system. The coorect path is X:\USers\User_name\Application Data\Falcom
where X is the letter of your drive and user_name is your accout name, the accout you use in Win 7.

The coorect path is X:\USers\User_name\Application Data\Falcom where X is the letter of your drive and user_name is your accout name, the accout you use in Win 7. One of the first things I tried was to manually create C:\Users\UserName\AppData\FALCOM\yso_win, but that doesn't work. For laughs, I tried creating C:\Users\UserName\Application Data\FALCOM\yso_win after temporarily renaming the Win7's Application Data compatibility shortcut, but that doesn't work either. The game and config utility are unable to find the folder and the utility ends up creating D:\FALCOM\YSO_WIN\Ü\Application Data\FALCOM\yso_win, which doesn't even work.

The error is related to admin privileges. Run the install with admin and/or compatibility on and it should run fine. I don't really run into issues with that.
As far as the lack of sound, you'll need to specify the game, whether it's patched (Falcom/Translation/etc) and if you've gone into config to ensure it's detecting the proper sound device.

A quick and important update:
thank's to our friend Philip who discovered a nasty bug, I have to warn you that the World of the Dead maze (the bonus level included in the latest Falcom's patch) can't be completed, because the game crashes just before the final boss. Since you can't save in the middle of the maze (well, you could, but resuming won't work, and this is a Falcom's genuine bug!) you could tourn out quite upset realizing you'll have to play it again from the beginning! Fortunately, the bug was quickly discovered and fixed, so follow my advice:
wait for and apply the next v1.1 translation patch before entering the World of Dead maze.
the patch will be uploaded to the figlidigaucci site as soon as possible. bye, GHO

Since this is a thread about trouble with these games
On win7 have tried playing xanadu next with the translation patch numerous times. each time i re-installed with every method i could think of. applocale jap settings run as admin re-installed with each setting about 3 times
after the game starts so far these have happened:
game hangs at the opening video game hangs after pressing skip game suddenly worked only 1 time after skipping but save wouldnt work. after that it would hang again
i dont know what version the dvd is at, ive read about the patch having problems at win7 and with newer versions. how can i determine what version of xanadu next i have? Also some people have reported not having problems with win7, if some of you can provide some info it would be much appreciated.
