Is it a crime that I've jonied a forum called Ancient Land of Ys, while having never played a single Ys game?

A friend once told me that the Ys games basically revolve around the main guy running into enemies with his sword, finding hot ladies to swoon over him, then quickly leaving for his next adventure. It does sound like a premise with a lot of potential.

As far as Falcom itself goes, I think I've only played Legacy of the Wizard and Faxanadu, never finishing either. Gurumin looked kind of cute, but I keep forgetting to buy it.

At any rate, I know kimimi from another forum, along with the AWOL justinzero. I remembered them mentioning this place in the past, and thought I'd check out the community. Here's hoping I can fit in!

As for Ys, the earlier ones where you just run into things aren't for everybody. Pick yourself up Napishtim for PS2 (or PC), or Felghana for PSP (or PC), or Origin for PC.
They're only about 10 hours a piece (though Origin has three routes), so it's not a major investment on a risky game.
And if you love them (you have to), get yourself Ys Seven for PSP for a longer experience.
THEN, maybe, you can move backward to the bump 'n grind games.

Since you are new to the Land of Ys, take cake when you travel outside our town of Minea. Many monsters are known to patrol the many grasslands and wooded areas. Also, stay far away from the Abandoned Mine and the Shrine as they both filled with monsters!

I ate way too much over the holiday break, so it's back to Cafe Steamers for me. It'll be a while before I'm ready for some more cake. Thanks for the welcome, though!

A career in the game industry would certainly have to come first in your list of priorities, but if you do end up working for that egomaniacal prick, you and I are fucking finished professionally.

Well to be clear, the thing about us being finished was a reference to Christian Bale going apeshit on the set of Terminator Salvation. Not sure if you heard about that or not. Beyond that, Tim writes very, very inane drivel, and his style of journalism could possibly be construed as legitimate attempts at murder. Both of his audience and the English language.

If it means you're able to get a job in the gaming industry, then great. I just can't stand the guy or his work.

Oh yeah, I can get disliking his writing, but he's been nothing but kind and patient with me and our conversations, so I don't really know much about him being an egomaniacal prick. He has a few people who treat him as sacrosanct, but the same could be said of Kurt Kalata and Jeremy Parish but when you communicate with them they're fine and good.

I've found that any chance I've had to talk with "egomaniacal pricks" has shown me that it is other people painting them that way, and they're just decent folks!
