Is it possible to buy a Japanese game, download an English patch and play it on your PSP with the UMD? Or have I got it wrong?

So, does that mean if I buy the brandish game on PSP, then download the patch on the mem stick, it'll run as it is in English? Sorry, I'm completely naive with this stuff.

If you buy [game UMD] for the PSP, rip the UMD (game itself) to the memory stick, and download/install the English patch to the memory stick, then the game will play in English... but that's if there is an English patch for said game.

Hi gpr,
In order to rip the UMD you will need a UMD loading PSP-1000, 2000, or 3000 with custom firmware installed. Then, using the VSH menu, (usually enabled by pressing the select button) you can change your USB mode to "UMD" . The next time you connect it to your computer, instead of a folder for you to browse the library of your PSP that would appear normally, you should see that the UMD volume itself is presented. Simply copy that file to your desktop, rename it as necessary and copy that to the ISO folder of your PSP library to play it on a PSP that has custom firmware installed. The whole process probably takes around 10 mins and is very easy. Depending on the nature of the patch, it may be something that you just place in a folder in your PSP library, or it might require you to extract the contents of the UMD using another program and actually patching or replacing the files from there.
I use this method for ripping my own UMDs all the time for use on my PSPGO with custom-firmware. Then I hook the PSPGO to my television via a docking station and play games using the Dual Shock bluetooth support that is built-in to the PSPGO.
I had heard that a patch for Brandish TDR was being worked on some time ago, but I have not heard much more on that. I thought the project had stopped. I'd be curious to learn more if there was a patch released for this.

I usually just do it directly from the UMD to the memory stick, using homebrew like UMDumper. I find this much easier than connecting my PSP to my computer for *any* reason.
