Aria and Dawn are f-cking amazing. They even (barely) manage to surpass SotN, in my opinion. They two games have linked stories, so you'll certainly get more out of them playing them in order.
Additionally, if you START a new Dawn file with Aria in the GBA slot of your DS, then you'll start off with a neat, expensive, rare little item that'll certainly be of some help if you're into Castlevania item-collecting!

Nooo...! Nothing beats Symphony of the Night! No-thing! That's the greatest game ever made. It's a lot more fun than Ys (but I like Ys more). The Saturn version is a lot better than the PS1 version because you can play with Richter and Maria. And on top of it all - the game completely changes when you do that. Playing with Alucard, it's a standard Castlevania action-adventure-rpg-ish game, but with Richter or Maria, the game changes to an action game like the first Castlevania games. There's no equipment, no items, no stats, no levels. Just the standard weapon and hearts. Really cool.

Haven't played Dawn yet but I have seen the new designs. They seem horribly generic. Especially having gotten used to the same character designer for the last what is it 5 or so Castlevanias? These new designs weren't even on the level of Drac X, and just don't 'feel' right, with a few exceptions, Castlevania has never really gone for the simplistic anime look. I just don't think it fits.

The anime character art for DoS is garbage, thank g-d, it's mostly a non-issue in-game, since the actual gameplay artstyle hasn't changed at all, and in fact only gotten better.
SotN is a great game, but it's quite dated. Dawn of Sorrow is much more refined, IMHO.

At least they have found ways to please a broader fan base by keeping the side scrolling versions alive and well and also making the 3D ones. I'm thankful for the strong portable console market.
I really like most of Yoshitaka Amano's works, but his art books are extremely expensive. I only have one, and I don't wish to buy another one at the moment.

I really like most of Yoshitaka Amano's works Ys. Ys. Dempa Micomsoft. Ys. X68000. Ys.

I saw Amano at one of the FF shows, he was next to Hironobu Sakaguchi. Somewhere around only ten seats away from me! I wanted to get his autograph, but Nobuo Uematsu stole my marker, and I just couldn't get close enough. True story.

Amano? The classic (pre-Nomura) Final Fantasy artist? His artwork doesn't resemble Kojima's AT ALL. Amano's isn't realistic, but surrealistic.

Yes, I definitely prefer Yoshitaka Amano as FF character designer over Tetsuya Nomura. At least they let him come back for FF IX. I love Freya Crescent from FF IX and Terra (aka Tina) from FF VI. Also, Vampire Hunter D is a Yoshitaka Amano character as well. An anime classic. He recently even did a Wolverine/Elektra story for Marvel comics! He has even done Batman work too. Quite a work history.

I forgot, I had only seen one piece of Ys work by him, it was that game box cover, but it was definitely awesome for me. I need to scan some images from my Amano artbook now.

Amano did Ys work? I'd love to see that. I had no idea. I too love Amano's work. Nomura's is awful. Anyone see his Setzer (FFVI originally) redesign for Kingdom Hearts II? AWFUL!
