There I was, making stove top popcorn and soup, multitasking, something I'm not good at... apparently.
The kernels begin to pop in the pot, drawing curiosity from the cat. I show the cat what's making the noise by bringing the pot closer to the cat and removing the lid, next thing you know, popcorn is flying all over the place, an uncontrolled situation caused by human stupidity. I place the pot on the counter while collecting the debris on the floor from KIA kernels. One popcorn lands in the soup.
Next, I remove margarine from the refrigerator and place the plastic lid on the active stove burner, by accident. The plastic lid begins to melt on the coil causing a smoke filled kitchen with the stench of burnt plastic. I quickly remove what's left of the melted plastic lid from the burner. Just when I thought things couldn't possibly get any worse, the burnt plastic on the coil ignites. I get a glass of water and extinguish the fire on the stove burners.
It was an ugly situation.
