Greetings.

As I have spammed this in my signature box for some time, I did up a rankset based on the weapons found in the first two games. Recently, I have given some thought to it and I am interested in expanding the set to include swords from other games. I have already reworked the swords of the first two game, improving their proportions.



I have easy enough access to graphic images from the first two games. However, the rest of the games, my attempts to find good images of the swords have been... less than successful.

To that end, I am posting on here, hoping to have better luck here. I know some users here have better access to the resources I need, AKA the games themselves. I would certainly appreciate some good screencaps of the weapons used through the series (#3-#6, at the very least. Still debating #7)

Wish I could contribute to your awesome rankset, but right now I can't

By the way, why did you change the rank position of the Battle and Flame swords? The Battle Sword is never an ultimate weapon in an Ys game, and the Flame Sword is in Ys I (except for the Silver Sword) and Ys III. Will you be changing them back?

Also, including more of the swords would be pretty awesome, if your plan goes well. There are many, I guess. At least the Emelas ones, Genos', Ys IV's and the Ys SEVEN one come straight to mind. (No clue on Ys V!)

Hmm, would screenshots taken in an emulator suffice, or no? If so, I think I could do equipment screens of Ys III and Ys IV for the SFC/SNES (Ys V SFC doesn't seem to have individual sword art). Those aside, I could probably get you YsF and YsO, if you need them.

The one sword I have added in so far was the Middle Sword from Ys 4: Mask of the Sun. I only had a small sprite to go from, and hope the design is sufficient enough.

I was looking at the damage charts, and found the Battle Sword (Ys 2) does more damage than the Flame Sword (Ys 1). Anyhow, nothing is set in stone yet, so I could be swayed to change them back.

I already have the sprites for the weapons from Wanderers and Mask of the Sun. What I am hoping to get shots of are the higher-resolution swords, like from Ys 6 and Oath in Felghana, if possible. I have looked up tutorials about trying to take screencaps off my PSP and upload them to my computer, but it does not look like my PSP would support such mods. My attempts were partially successful, but not far enough.

Note #1: There are two Long Swords posted for the time being. One is from Ys 1&2. The other is from Ys 6. Both do 15 damage.
Note #2: The "Defender" is from Legacy of Ys.

Wow, this is pretty awesome!!

And, I understand your reasoning for putting the Battle Sword and others ahead of the Flame Sword. Are you sure, though, that the amount of power it gives in Ys III is the same as in Ys I? Maybe it is, but I believe it's worth checking it out.

Also, your work on the Violent Light (as well on everything else there) was spectacular. However, judging from the Ys IV MotS sprite, I think it isn't meant to have some kind of steel blade in the middle, but actually supposed to be pure, aggressive light. Akin to the Flame Sword, but with light instead. Light in the shape of a sword, "violently" vibrant, on top of a sword hilt, with no steel blade or anything comparable to that material.
Don't you think so?

Red Hairdo: Your comments are quite an interesting take on things. I could try to make one Violent Sword that is done like the blade and one without, then see which one ends up looking better! As for the order of things, the project is not finished, so there is always room for change.

My next update will include a couple more earlier swords. I was also thinking of including something for level 1, maybe a tiny knife, though I don't think any Ys games feature knives as weapons, so maybe make one Ys-style?

Also, the Claymore is a bit of an inside-joke with another group I know, so no worries. It's not part of the 'system'.

Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys actually features one, called "Puma", which you steal from Romun soldiers. Ys IV TDoY actually features some unique weapons, as well. And Ys IV PS2 definitely!

Puma? You mean like an M12 LRV?

Okay I posted a couple more. I am curious about this Puma and other stuff. I do not have access to Dawn of Ys at this time, either.

UPDATE: It looks like if I am going to tinker with anything from Dawn of Ys, I will need the graphics from the game. >.>;
