Hello everyone, since I just registered after lurking as a guest for a couple of weeks I decided to join this forum and say hello. To my surprise my nickname wasn't taken, which is... strange but I'm getting the feeling this is some sort of signal!
I'm pretty much a newcomer (more like a latecomer) to the Ys world, I wanted to play this games for quite a while when I first found some pictures and videos around the net. I'm one of the guys that voted for them to get into GOG (since I'm not a very steam fan) and as soon as they made the request and they got launched into the store I knew I needed them and I got them right away.
Today I've just finished Ys Chronicles+ (I, II) and what can I say, I really enjoyed them (specially with the "complete" art). The game overall is great, the history, gameplay and ofc I cannot say which one of the three soundtracks that adds every game I like the most.
I'll start Ys The Oath in Felghana/Origin pretty soon and I'm looking forward to buy the anime's also... Idk if they are really worth getting or not. What do you think?
Also GOG is going to release VI pretty soon so I'm happy to hear that aswel (wonder if I'll miss anything if I jump from Felghana to VI, I hope they eventually release them all...).
Anyways, I'll stop ranting or this is going to end up offtopic! So yeah, hello everyone.
Also, as a side note, sorry for the lack of english/grammar accuracy.

Welcome aboard eon! Please enjoy your stay. I've got no clue on the anime. I've never seen it. The only thing missing between Felghana and Napishtim is Kefin. Which is only available on the snes and ps2. The snes version has been translated so if you're worried about missing something just go get the rom and an emulator. Most of us played these games long before kefin was translated so you're not really missing much, certainly not more than the rest of us missed, by skipping it.

Hi Eon,
Welcome to the forum and happy to hear that you are just now finding out about the Ys series. The best part about the Ys series is that they are all great games, only certain versions tend to be better than others. Now that you've finished Ys I & II, you'd probably really enjoy the anime since it offers a bit of a different take on the first two games. It's a classic anime and it has some funny dubbing and also the original Japanese audio with subtitles, so they are both worth watching. I kind of like the dub for the reason that they kind of took the liberties of calling Dark Fact as "Dark Factor!" If you get the Legacy of Ys anime set, you can't go wrong. : )
So you have a few choices in front of you if you are looking to play your next Ys games on the PC. You have Felghana which is a retelling of Ys III, which I like more than the original Ys III, called Wanderers from Ys. It's just such a solid game. Origin is also nice, but it's something that kind of just serves as giving a back story to Ys I & II since it takes place 700 years before Ys I.
Ys VI is good as well, but it's not my favorite of the series and it was the first Ys title that they went "3D" with, so a lot of the combat isn't as refined in my opinion as it was in Ys Oath in Felghana and Origin.
Outside of the PC, you have 4 very different versions of Ys IV, 3 of which are in English: Mask of the Sun (SNES), Dawn of Ys (PC-Engine CD-Rom), Mask of the Sun - A New Theory (PS2), and the official series canon by Falcom, released as "Ys Memories of Celceta" for PS Vita.
Ys V is for SNES. It's also in English now. It's not the greatest in the series though, but the developers did try out some new gameplay mechanics which were fleshed out more with the combat in Ys VI.
Ys Seven is for PSP (and PC in Chinese)
Ys Eight? A new announced Ys Title is destined for PS Vita and PS4.

Nice to meet you SkyeWelse and Xalphenos.
Luckily I found a seller of the anime's in the UK and since I'm in europe aswel the shipping and the whole price wasn't that expensive so I'm already bitting my nails waiting to recieve them. From what i've seen it has the feeling of a good 90's anime which is awesome because I'm very fond into that era which in my opinion was the best drawing/history wise and less prefab.
Yesterday I started Felghana and so far so good, I have the feeling that it's going to be harder than I and II, which is good, I like getting a challenge. I got Origin via GOG aswel when they all got released because they whole pack was discounted a 20%-30% (or so) so it's going to be the next one after Felghana for sure.
As for the other games I'm looking to get the original CD for the PC-E Ys iv, it looks great and it has that "old-school" yet very unique and still beautiful graphics and from what i've seen some guys have made an awesome dubbing work which is always a plus to get your hands into it.
Sadly celceta is just for the PS Vita and I own a slim so I hope they'll eventually release it for Windows or for the PSP, as for seven it seems like it's available on the PSP so I'll eventually get there when I do them all in order (as much as I can).
