So apparently NIS America is bringing over an RPG called "Ar Tonelico." I went to rpgamer, ign, etc. to look up some info, and it looks quite interesting. Anyone over here have any info about it?

Wow, I just watched the trailer and it said October 2006. This game looks fantastic. I have never heard of it until your post but I will definitely be buying it. The look of the world and the characters is everything I love to see in RPGs. Thanks for the post! It looks like the game will have a unique musical score, based on what I'm reading about fighting with songs. I am really excited about this title now.

Wow. Gust. They really know what I hate in an RPG--and they know how to use it too.

So this bad boy came out yesterday. Anyone played it? It really has the feel of one of those Japanese niche RPGs. It actually reminds me of playing a PS1 game, which is nice for nostalgia, but not-so-nice for the game's technical aspects. I did enjoy the little I played yesterday, though, which has me hopeful for the rest of it.

It's out? Crap, Gurumin will be out in days, I just got FF VI Advance, and I still haven't finished Valkyrie Profile. EDIT: Went to the game store, and once I saw it, I had to buy it! It comes in a slipcase with a color 52 page artbook. I'm going to get out of my pattern of not finishing games. click

Aw, this one's sprite based too? And Atelier-esque sprites to boot? All interest is lost. All of it.

Dude, aren't the translators at NIS America (Nippon Ichi Software America) supposed to be really good? 'Cause this game is full of really awkward translations... direct-from-Japanese stuff, rife with typos and forgotten context. We're not talking Legend of Heroes grade bad here, by any means -- nor even PoPoLoCrois PSP grade bad -- but this is still a pretty shoddy translation for a company with NIS America's reputation. Yeah, they are... their previous translations always came across as though they really enjoyed the games they were working on (down to all the little jokes in the item descriptions in NIS' strategy games, even, and were anything but literal, so to hear that is... a bit of a disappointment, really. I'll be getting it eventually, but a lot of the reviews have said it's fun, and the music's good, but the dungeons are 'meh' and stay 'meh' and most of it revolve around the text with the main appeal being the plot, characters and all the text - which, according to you, didn't come out very well. Oh well, I'll buy it after Gurumin, anyway. It was always going to come second priority to Falcom. Well, that's if I don't get Soul Cradle first.

How's the battle system? Strategic? Slow? Action-based? I need to know.

I've just gotten a little further, and I must say the part I like the best so far is diving. "Diving" is something that you do with your Reyvaltiel (the female singers who use song magic to attack) to increase their powers and understand their feelings a bit better. It seems that the producers, evene in their lack of technical prowess, really fleshed out the Reyvaltiels with really deep personalities. The point of diving is to resolve any psychological problems (like the lack of desire to grow up, or a pathological fear of fire) that one of your Reyvaltiels have and have them perform better. I must say it's really nice to get to know one in this fashion. More on it a bit later!

Game is really good. Plays and looks exactly like Atelier Iris, which is good since I just finished the second one and needed more!
