So... This looked interesting to me, but X-Play slammed it pretty hard (2/5). Has anyone played it? And is it any good? I love Falcom games typically, and Atlus has done a good job in the past bringing good games over.

The game is a lot like Fire Emblem with...Robots and extra game mechanics you'd come to expect by having robots instead of people on horses.
The gameplay itself is mighty simple and straight forward and the devil is in the details(well, insane amount of customizaiton.)
I used to be a hardcore NUT for this franchise until I felt betrayed by F and F final for Saturn and PSX but this might be the game that gets me back into the series.

I played the Super Famicom games and Alpha and Gaiden for the PSX. I got Super Robot Taisen Alpha 3 for the PS2 and I'd say it's probably one of my best games I've ever purchased. As for the GBA they brought to the states, it doesn't have the robots from any existing anime (the OVA is based on the game actually) thus taking away part of the fun. But don't get me wrong, Banpresto's original characters and mechs are badass in their own way (they're mostly my more powerful units in Alpha 3). The graphics might look dated however as I believe Original Generation GBA came before 2 or 3 other GBA Super Robt Taisen games.. I believe Super Robot Taisen R (which includes anime robots) have animations that are close to PSX Alpha 1 quality!! So overall, despite being dated, I still think this is a good purchase and a good introduction to the series since it's in English (the only one that's official anyway). HOWEVER THERE IS HOPE!!! Banpresto remade Original Generation for the PS2. I'm not sure it's released yet (yes it's a recent one), but the graphics and animation exceeds Alpha 3 (which was incredible). See for yourself: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGJ2dCqZS20Point is, since there shouldn't be problems with copyrights too, hopefully they'll bring the game here!!! SUPPORT THE SERIES BUY THE US GBA TITLE

I'll certainly look into renting/borrowing this game from someone now. Hopefully the game play and mission design won't be as abysmal as F was.
