Hi
GS is my names initials, actually it's G.H.S...
I have bin in to video games cins the late 70s, though now days not that much.
The first time I played Ys was Ys3 on the SNES in 95. That’s when I heard about Ys book 1&2 on the TG16CD. I never got the system back then (too expensive).
Ys3 was my favorite Ys game because that style of game reminds me of my other favorites like Rastan, Cadash, Zelda2, Faxanadou, Rygar, and Zeliard and so on. Side view or isometric action adventures RPG are my favorite.
When emulation came out I got to play the other Ys games. The 1st emulated Ys game I played was Ys4 SNES because the game play was like book 1&2 so I could know how 1&2 played like (and it was translated).
At first I did not like the way the action was (crash into enemy at an angel to beat) so I dropped it. In was expecting action like Zelda so naturally I put a high expectation and was disappointed. After a week I tried it again and saw the game for what it really was and not what I wanted it to be. It was an acquired taste but then I saw that this style of play gave this RPG a faster pace than others (it played a little like Gauntlet but with out the fighting animation). After that I played book 1&2 then 5 (if it was isometric and translated it would have bin perfect) and last 4 on the PCE. I like 1, 2 and both 4’s but they do not have replay value for me so 3&5 are my favorite. When 6 came out I was blown away with its BG art and game play. The character art was good but I never really like the SD style art, looks to kiddy.
I like the Ys series but I’m not a dedicated “fan boy”. I will not play very version or feel like I have to get every product. That’s just not me; I never was like that for anything. So for me to get the Ys6 in English it would have to be on PC and on a store shelve I happen to pass by.
Anyway wanting to know more about the series I searched the net and found this site and the rest is history.
