Thought this soundtrack was pretty terrible. I was hoping that with a new project, a new studio, Uemtasu's inspiration would have returned. What did I get? More evidence of his continued downward spiral. Blech.

Sorry to see you didn't like it, Mejilan. I've been listening to this constantly the past couple days.
My favorites on the soundtrack are:
Disc 1 Waterside
Dragon fight!
Mystery of the Ancient Machine
Challenge
Omen
Ruins (love this one a lot)
Advancing Ground
Army of the Holy Sword
Disc 2 Zola's Theme
A Bit of Fight (when I first heard this, I just laughed, I really like it though).
Frozen Village
Nene's Paradise (Sounds a lot like something from Chrono Trigger at first)
Giant Mechat
Advance! Drill Machine
Ancient Stronghold
Mechabots Army Charges!
Peaceful Waterside
Mechat Takes off!
Take Back the Shadow! (Awesome!)
State of Emergency ( :oThis is my favorite out of the whole thing!)
Revival of the Ancients
Release the Seal
Blue Dragon Theme (Heard this one live many times, and like it a lot)
Waterside ~for Piano and Orchestra~
I noticed a few more of the songs have striking similarities at times to pieces found in FF VI or VII. I don't know if this was purposely done or not.
I would really like to hear your thoughts Deuce.

hmm, just thought I'd add to the Toriyama art discussion... i was just looking at Dragon Quest Swords for Wii and I have to say it looks quite a bit different from his usual affair. At least, enough for me to question if they were actually done by him this time (i checked, they were). the-magicbox.com/0701/game070127b5.shtmlstill a bit silly/typical in design for me, but at least it looks baroque, which I like. As for the game it self... I don't know if i'll be giving it a try or not, but it looks very pretty

Okay this is how I see it... First off I've not herd a note of the music from the game, but if GMF likes it then it's probably pretty good. Next Toriyama I like his work. I actually one day would love to cosplay Jessica From Dragon Quest 8 one day. I will give that he does reuse costumes a lot though. Luckily I've never been exposed to that much Dragon Ball or anything, so I don't get burnt out on it as quick as most. Finally Rob Liefeld I've not seen a lot of his work, in fact the only piece of work that I've seen and known was his was the one that The Captain put up here. I have to say from what I've seen I don't really like it that much. Also GMF I have to pat you on the back for taking almost everyones dislike of Liefeld so well. That takes some strength of character.

More evidence of his continued downward spiral. Let me guess... his stuff hasn't been "inspired" since FF6, right? Or FF7, perhaps. (FF8 and 9 had some of the best soundtracks of the series.)Whoa. Just saw this response, and had to reply. He was BRILLIANT in FFs 1-6, and 8, in my opinion. 9 had TOOOOONS of music, and quite a lot of it was at least good, if not great, but it also had quite a bit of throwaway filler crap. 7 was almost all throwaway filler crap. Shockingly bad. Some of the best battle themes in the series, but just about everything else was painful to listen too. The horrible sound quality didn't hurt. I actually find 6's (SNES sound system) much more pleasing to the ears, and it clearly had vastly superior composition, in my opinion. 8 was awesome. Destroyed 7 in sound quality and composition, easily blowing by the SNES's best in sound. Finally. 10 and 11 were mostly forgettable, with 11 easily outclassing 10. But in either case, I know he wasn't the sole composer for those. Actually, I don't think he's even credited with the majority of the tracks composed for 10 or 11, but I can barely remember anymore. Either way, he was only consistently great with FFs 1-6. 7, 9, 10, and 11 consist of his "downward spiral", in my opinion. With 8 being a shockingly great anomaly. Blue Dragon was... ugh. Bland, bland, bland. The greatest thing he's composed since FF8 was... the opening theme to Super Smash Bros. Brawl... actually!
