Anyone else here playing it? I finished it 2 days ago but replaying some old saves to do some asides (like joining Sephiroth's -- took me forever to figure out how to trigger this one -- and Zack's fanclubs) and doing some more missions.
I wish Square Enix US would announce the street date for the damn game already as I want to comprehend what's going. Of course, there are lots of fan translations out there but some of their stuff is confusing. X_X Ah, if only everyone could give us Deuce-quality works! ^^~

This one is totally waiting for the English version to come out. How's the battle system?
Also, I haven't played the first Final Fantasy 7 (not first FF, first FF seven, hahaha- you can't say that about many games... or series, or... well, something... hahahaha). Does this mean I won't understand anything of this game? I haven't played/seen ANYTHING FF7.

B-b-b-b-b-b-b-but it's fan service!!!
You're supposed to have played Final Fantasy VII!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ToT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why haven't you played it!?!?!!?!??!!?!?!?
(Confession: I never even finished disc 1 of the game. But being dur nerd back then and having read the translated scripts a million times, story summary, bought the Versus Books guidebook, and some other crap, I know the story very well. ^^)
Seriously though, the battle system's okei. It's like what everyone says; it's reminiscent to Kingdom Hearts' system where you can run around the field, dodge and block, and select battle commands in real time.
As for story comprehension, I think it'll be fine for newcomers. Of course, with all prequels and sequels, it's always nice to have the knowledge beforehand cuz then you'll feel warm and fuzzy when you see things you recognize and also be able to exclaim stuff like, "So THAT'S where that came from!", etc. etc. etc.
:3!

I don't know! I even own the game and it seems pretty cool, and I can NEVER get enough of that battle music!! Maybe I need to play it more. I have only played it for a couple of hours. Never really gave it a fair chance. So, it sounds like the battle system is similiar to the one in FFXII. Y/N. Cool, though! Sounds promising.

Is the battle system being similar to FFXII? I say it IS like it but CC is a bit more interactive with the rolling and blocking.
The only thing that might be annoying is the camera since it won't always go 360 degrees around. You have to constantly move Zack here and there to try and rotate it around him. Unfortunately, by the time you get him in the "right position", you find yourself in a battle. :P
I've yet to really figure out what makes the camera go stupid. =_=

FM-77, Final Fantasy: Crisis Core is a prequel to Final Fantasy VII. Crisis Core takes 700 years before Final Fantasy VII. Like nunuu recommend, I also strongly recommend you play and finish Final Fantasy VII. When it first game out, it hit the charts almost at an instant and was one of the most popular RPG's in the world - And it still is today. Knowing you are a big RPGer, I know the game will blow your mind. Also, on another note. I am waiting for the English version. I played the JAP version just for a little while, but I prefer knowing what everyone is saying in the game. So I am just going to wait for the English version. Also, I am not to crazy about that battle system, but meh, I will get used to it. The English version will be out March, 25, 2008.

"Crisis Core takes 700 years before Final Fantasy VII" 700 years before FFVII? That'd make Cloud 721 years old by the time of the events of VII. Not to mention Sephiroth, Zack, Shinra and the Turks. Are you absolutely sure it takes place so long ago? Did they all time-travel or something? I'm going to guess roughly 3-4 years before FFVII. It *is* Zack's story, afterall, and I'm pretty sure he wasn't alive 700 years ago. Maybe they meant 700 months, or 700 days? It really seems inefficient to say that, but o-kay. Edit: Scratch that. It'd *have to* be 700 days. That's nearly two years ago. If it were 700 months... well, it'd still be before Cloud and Zack's time.

Woah, lol. Thanks for catching me there. I meant to say 7 years, not 700 years lol!
The game takes place 7 years prior to the events of Final Fantasy VII. And that is official.

Whee! It's out this coming Tuesday! :D I'm actually more interested in the strategy guide more than the game though since I have to fill in some blanks in my Materia Fusion guide. :B

Yeah, I got this game the day it came out. I pre-ordered the game. And I must say, Square enix did an amazing job with this game. The storyline, gameplay, graphics, and sounds are all so great. I noticed that Square used some of the sounds from Final Fantasy VII and remixed a lot of the songs from that game to and put it in Crisis Core. You know, I am not to crazy for the battle system though. The battle system is kind of like the battle syatem for Final Fantasy 12. I am okay with it though, because It's better to try someone new I suppose. I did like Final Fantasy VII's battle system much better though.
So yeah, I just started the game and it is amazing. I recommend all Final Fantasy VII Compilation fans buy this game for the PSP. If you don't have a PSP, well, now you have a reason to buy one.
Now... Only if Square remade Final Fantasy VII... Currently not going to happen though. I heard inputs from the Square team and they said they are to busy with there current projects. They said it might be a future project and might be remade for either the PSP or the PS3.

Yeah, I got this game the day it came out. I pre-ordered the game. Did you get the goofy Shinra case along with the game? Guh, you people need to move on from clinging to old school battle systems! Broaden your horizons! Enjoy what is new!!! WHEEEE!!!!

It IS a neat game. I just got it yesterday. I love the soundtrack already, not many games make me love the soundtrack right away. (Ys III is an exception, just as well most of the Ys series. VI almost disappointed me with its soundtrack.) The battle system is somewhat stale, but I love it when it becomes interesting (I.E. enemies you can't attack on ground. Switch to magic!) It doesn't remind me of FFXII at all. Plus all of the familiar stuff, as was mentioned... fan service!

nunuu, no. It didn't come with that. The only feature for the pre-order was a holographic case.
Unsavory Maggot, I never said Crisis Core reminded me of FFXII. Only the reminded battle system did.
That was a good review, Tom.

Unsavory Maggot, I never said Crisis Core reminded me of FFXII. Only the reminded battle system did. Of course, but look again. I mentioned that the battle system didn't remind me of FFXII. See? I was talking about the battle system. What is it about Aeris (Quiet, Aerith purists!) that tugs at the hearts of many gamers? I mean, seriously? She's like a little kid, all innocent and pure and crap. She really does seem like that church girl you grow up with. ...and then the church girl becomes disgusting, putrid and terrifying, and you never talk to her again. I mean, seriously, is Aerith (Fine, I'll talk with a lithp.) really that thpethial?

My thoughts:
Although I've never been a huge fan of the FFVII story or world (though I do like it), I reluctantly started Crisis Core, and proceeded to really enjoy the game. The battle system is a lot of fun, even if I probably would like a bit more control (no automatic running to the enemies), and the DMW gets annoying. Quickly. The missions start out fun, but quickly grow tedious, as most are just "Go to this area, find this enemy, kill." I disliked that I never knew when I would level, but it never really mattered because the game was so easy that I never needed to grind to get further (note, I played on normal, and am only starting on hard now for my New Game +)
The story was great though. Although not a very plot-twist heavy story, I enjoyed the characters, and the ending was absolutely heart breaking. Very pretty graphics, gorgeous CG cutscenes, but a bit on the short side as well (I finished in about 11 hours, although I didn't do all that many missions).
Although I may have listed many negatives towards the game, I genuinely enjoyed every moment of it, and it's definitely one of the better games on the system.
