This is the one part of my collection I've been having alot of trouble with.
Finding a Complete Copy of YSV and V expert(SNES), I've been searching for weeks and found neither, checked ebay, some other auction sites, I even asked a friend who lives in Japan to browse several used game stores for me...Nothing!
Was this really hard to find in other people's experience, or am I just going through a really bad spot of luck with this?
Also, how rare is Expert in Comparison to the original? (anyone have any hard numbers on released copies? I'm curious!)

Ys V is pretty common. You can usually find it on Ebay for 20-25 dollars. I've even seen it go for about 15 dollars a couple of times (got mine for 17). It's about as common as Ys IV The Dawn of Ys, maybe a bit less.
Ys V Expert is more rare (2000 copies I believe) and can cost you anywhere from 40-70 dollars.
The PC "version" was a bonus with the limited edition of Tsukikage no Destiny and is pretty uncommon. 20-40 dollars.

In your opinon, is YsV expert rare enough that I shouldn't bother trying for a copy with complete packaging?
I've seen a couple YSV normals , but only the cart, seeing as my collection is all completes/sealed I've been trying to keep that trend up, but am getting to the bottom of the barrell ;>

I never implied that you should get a loose cart. Never do this. Not when it comes to Ys. You must get a complete copy. Just be patient - Ys V is not rare or uncommon, it'll show up on Ebay soon enough. I don't know why Ys V Expert was printed in such limited numbers, but I'm not exactly surprised. It is just a re-release after all, same game, nothing new. Just another difficulty mode that should've been in the original game in the first place. At least it was slightly cheaper than the first release.

Well, I bit the bullet anyways and bought the cart only off ebay(Ys V expert that is), I guess worst that can happen is I sell it if I ever find a complete copy.
Appreciate the advice!
I'm gonna wait for a complete on the normal, since you guys say its alot more common.

What is Expert? Harder? A Hacked Rom?
I remember Seldane explaining it but I've forgotten.

Trying to find a certain game in Japan is always half the fun. I have seen complete copies of Ys V Expert in stores before in Tokyo, but from what I remember...the prices weren't exactly pretty. I'd say to probably check eBay and your sources every so often. You never know when you find treasure. Best example for me was trying to find a copy of the Rockman X 1-6 soundtrack collection which, other than going to Capcom's Japanese website, you couldn't find in stores readily. On random chance I stopped in a secondhand shop and found a copy (brand new too!) for 30% less than retail. The next day I went to another secondhand shop in town and found a used one for 30% OVER the retail. Patience certainly is a virtue.

NOW I am interested. I must find this game myself and see what you mean by "It's like an ultra-cute Secret of Mana, on crack." After feeling a bit "cheated" by how Children of Mana turned out, I could use a substitute. Though I pray Secret of Mana 4 will be good. Can't really tell after reading the spread on it in Famitsu a couple weeks ago.

I bought Ys V Expert for 1500 Yen at Book Off in Tokyo, Japan, they had 3 copies of Ys V Expert and 5 of Ys V. all included booklet, packing and spam material. Expert was 1500, the regular set you back 1100 yen.
so no, no trouble finding Ys V or Ys V Expert.

I was about to ask this question as well. I found a copy of Ys V Expert the other day and ended up paying $ 60 dollars for it. I found it at this site: www.play-asia.com/I'm still looking for a copy of IV Mask of the sun. There were only 2000 copies made? Wow.... I hope this helps your search. Good luck.
