Ok, so I have played through or read the faqs on pretty much all the Ys games. I am now playing Oath and just reached what I think is the last boss. The boss says something about the winged creatures created him and something about a black ark.
So please help me understand and connect to dots concerning the overall Ys story.
This is what I seem to remember....
Feena and Lair are the last of a winged race of beings. They were sent away from their homeland when they were young and ended up in Ys. (I beleive that is what it said in the pc engine version of Ys IV). They become the goddesses of Ys. Is there any indication why that happened?
In Oath the end talks about a black ark. That is no doubt the same ark at in Ys VI. It also says the winged creatures created the boss in Oath. Now if I remember right, the ark in Oath was programmed to kill humans. The boss in Oath talks about killing humans.
Does this mean that the race that Feena and Lair descended from want to kill humans? If so, why do Feena and Lair want to protect them?

d000de, see "The Eye in the Glass" thread in the Ys VI forum and "The origins of Darm?" in Ys Origin for speculations about the winged race and such~

I've played through almost every Ys game in some form or another (except for the newly released Ys Origin and Ys V, though I've managed to suppliment my knowledge with information from here an on other forums). I think I can try to do the timeline justice, so I'll give it a go.
((Obligatory SPOILER warning!!!))
The Sealing of the Ark- The Eldeen civilization prospers on the Altas Ocean using Emelas technology, co-existing with the humans and Rehdan. Certain humans, known as the Clan of Darkness (Possibly being forerunners of Dalles, Gruda, & certainly Ernst- given their knowledge of Eldeen technology), steal the key that runs the Ark, which regulates weather and allows the Eldeen culture to exists in a near Utopian state. The Ark appearing to be made of solid Black Emelas, enables people to create White and Ash Emelas. The Clan of Darkness aim at replicating white Emelas to gain immortality. Alma seals the ark to prevent it from running amok.
Development of Ash Emelas/Cleria- Unable to create white Emelas with the stolen technology, the Clan of Darkness is only able to create Ash Emelas. These make monsters which are the Galbalan monsters fought in Ys III and VI.
Galbalan is sealed in Felgahna by Chester and Elena's ancestors.
The Celceta dynasty is founded by refugees from the fall of the Ark. Two Eldeen- Feena and Reah, leave and found the kingdom of Ys
Sometime afterward, the hero Lefance rebels against the Eldeen in Celceta for their abusing their power, possibly deciding to cannibalize the humans they ruled over. A sole survivor of the Eldeen is left alive in Seleceta and kept under guard in the Divine Area.
Sometime before 700 years before Ys I- The events of the Ys Strategy RPG. It's applicability to canon is uncertain and I have no information on the plot.
700 years before Ys I- Events of Ys Origin- Using the Black Pearl, which appears to be a solid mass of Black Emelas and capable of radiating great magical energy, Ys prospers, using Ash Emelas/Cleria as silver. The Cleria is corrupted and turned into monsters. Dalles, manipulated by Kain Fact who is still a priest of Ys, assails Ys, which is sent into the sky by the two goddesses.
Descendants of the Priests including Hugo and Toal Fact, as well as Yunica Tova and Rico Jemma fight Dalles and aid in sealing the merged form of Kain and the Black Pearl, otherwise known as Darm. The Goddesses seal themselves under the Riastin mines with the Cleria to prevent them from being corrupted further.
About 500 years before Ys I- Events occur in the City of Kefin that seal it away.
16 Years before Ys I- Adol Christin is born in a small mountain village.
Ys I/II/IV- Adol sets out for Esteria and lands in Ys. He stops Dark Fact, a corrupt descendant of Hugo, from using the excavated Cleria to raise an army of monsters, then ascends to Ys to destroy Dalles and Darm. The Black Pearl's influence over the Cleria created monsters and magic energies are pretty much stopped.
Later, probably in the same year, Adol heads to Celceta. He discovers more about the Eldeen dynasty there following a plot by Gruda and the Romun Empire to harness their power and subsequently the powers of Black Emelas, which were also embodied in the Black Pearl. The last Eldeen suvivor of that dynasty, Eldeel, is killed.
3 Years after Ys I- Events of Ys III & V
In Felgahna/Ys III, Adol is able to stop a plot aimed at resurrecting a Galbalan monster of great power, forged in the Ark/Ruins of Amnesia out of Ash Emelas/Cleria.
In Xandria/Ys V- Some connection, but as there's no real translation of the game yet, so I can't elaborate here.
6 years after Ys I- Ark of Napishtim.
Adol, now 22, ends up in the Vortex of Canaan, the resting place of the Ark and probably former center of the Eldeen civilization that was watched over by Alma. Ernst, a descendant of the people that stole the key to the Ark, made of Black Emelas, manipulates the Romun army and tries to use the Ark to gain immortality. Ernst falls to Adol and Adol is able to destroy the haywire Ark before it wipes out the Eresia and Afroca continents.
47 years after Ys I- At the age of 63, after living a lifetime of adventure, Adol Christin passes away.
END SPOILERS
That's my best shot at answering your question. I hope this meets with the approval of the rest of the board and that they can help fill in any holes I may have missed.

That's something I also picked up at a game store in Akihabara a year and a half ago- the only problem is I can't read Japanese as I haven't gotten around to learning it yet- making it kind of useless, but still pretty to look at (See also my copy of hte Langrisser Tribute for the Saturn I still don't own...). Still, I'm glad to have it.

I thought officially both versions of Ys IV were supposed to be 2 years after Ys I and II, this was by virtue of Adol being 19 during that time.
Good stuff though.

Weren't there ages given for adol in each of the games that can get it into a timeline? I could have sworn I read these somewhere, as in Adol was 17 at the start of Ys I and is 23 by Ys VI.

3 Years after Ys I- Events of Ys III & V In Felgahna/Ys III, Adol is able to stop a plot aimed at resurrecting a Galbalan monster of great power, forged in the Ark/Ruins of Amnesia out of Ash Emelas/Cleria. We don't know for sure if that Galbalan came from the Ark / Ruins of Amnesia. There is a possibility that more Galba beasts exist around the world other than the Canaan. And as for Adol passing away at the age of 63, I thought Falcom changed it to Adol going missing at the age of 63 (instead of dying). Can anyone confirm this?

I believe its subtitle is Destructor from Far West Ocean or something of that nature. I knew right away from the subtitle that they were referring to Canaan.

O.K. I will have to check those evidences again, thanks.
And does anyone else think that these galba beasts may be mass produced by the clan of darkness in secret? It would be cool to see that happening. I would be happy if Falcom combines the clan of darkness with the Romun empire since most of descendents of the clan of darkness seem to be associated with the Romun empire.
