For the Ys Oath/Origin engine and include all the resources from both games. That would just rock. To bad thats so unlikely.

I dunno, Falcom make their living entirely out of that engine, if they were to release it to public, that would mean insta-bankrupcy for them!

well I wouldn't suggest they release the open source engine... Just like, an Ys editor... I mean I love the style of the games, it just annoys me their dungeons are so linear and the games so short... Everything else is great.

The design itself is very cool. The dungeons are cool, they're just too short and too linear for my taste... Falcom should really spend a lot of time on focus on Ys games... They put great ammount of effort into the graphics, bosses and music. I would have enjoyed Felghana and Origins a lot better if the dungeons had been less linear and longer.

I don't agree with the graphics part. YsO looks exactly like Ys VI, if not worse. That's not effort. If there's something Falcom doesn't focus on, it's graphics. Take another recent game - Xanadu Next (awesome game, play it!) - not exactly pretty, and the 3d models look like they're from 1998! At least that's better than YsO, it actually featured 3d models.

LOL are you serious? Origins graphics own Xanadu Next graphics any day of the week. Xanadu Next is fun but just plain Ugly game.

Eh I donno, with my video card and the settings on both games maxxed out, the graphics are amazing!
I can't comment on Ys 6 for PC, I only played it on PS2 and it had terrible graphics compared to Felghana and Origins on my computer.

I think Ys has some really beutiful parts graphic wise. Even in Ys Complete, when you're in the mountains near Darm Tower, or when you're in the floating continent with Solomon Temple in the distance. Also in Ys VI, in the ruins, for example, or when you're at the castle walls in Oath. I really think there are few games with such gorgeous backgrounds.

I love this engine... I personally think they've found the perfect medium for the series to continue. I wouldn't complain if they added in more high-res type stuff, but it's hardly necessary. As we all should know by now, the Ys series has never been about graphics. Quoted for veracity. I wouldn't mind at all if they kept this engine over the next few games, with whatever little touch-ups they like. Just as long as they don't ditch those adorable, well-animated little sprites. I love those. XD

well I passed my suggestions on to Falcom. My idea was to market an Ys toolset/editor as its own product... But also to make it nessecary to have the Ys game in order to uise their resources... For example you'd need to own Ys Origins if you wanted to use graphics, sprites and tilesets from Origins in your map.

Are these games very close ended to modding and such Or has anyone looked into it at all aside from the translations. Like is the game heavily hardcoded preventing most modifications... I know every developer is different... Same make their games quite easily moddable and friendly to third party programs, while others not so much... It seems that even translating the dialogue is a difficult and time consuming task... And making other types of mods or a fan made map editor would be pretty much impossible unless they released the engine open source, am I right?
