I wouldnt get so upset just yet....
first of all, thats always been the same artwork used for the game. Plus, its not americanization (the name, i mean) because nothing has been translated to english yet, he is Abel acording to the Japanese version (which is so far, the only version). Its Abel Reinforth or something, like Ryle said, so its deffinately not Adol since their last names dont sound nearly as similar as their first names do. How/if Adol is related to or is in the game, we dont know yet.
I suggest we remain open-minded. I dont like strategy games, although most of the ones ive tried are the american PC kind, not the Japanese GBA kind (Fire Emblem, Famicom Wars, Final Fantasy Tactics, etc.). Even though i much rather prefer an all out Action RPG, im gonna keep open minded for this. Theyve made it a Prequel to the series, so now im interested story-wise... but maybe the music will turn out great and worthy of the Ys name as well. Hopefully the strategy gameplay will be great too... I dont think anyone here had played a Ys strategy game yet so we dont know exatly what it'll be like.
Im atleast happy that Falcom didnt do what most developers are doing, porting existing games or just shying away from the DS cuz they arent smart enough to think of how to innovate with it. Falcom left the porting to the playstation PORTable (lol, you have to admit, its being slammed with tons of ports with only slight changes/additions), and gave the DS something completely new that took advantage of the hardware and features available. I mean, this game is even WiFi enabled! If you dont beleive me, read the one article that IGN posted for the game. Not many upcoming games are using that feature, so its quite a treat for Ys Strategy. Hopefully I'll be facing some of you online
heres the IGN link: ds.ign.com/articles/662/662290p1.html
the info in that article is all that i know about the game, realy. I wish someone would translate the official site the same way Oath in Falghana's was translated (theres an update about an official soundtrack, im interested in what it says but im not interested in getting it till i hear if the music is up to Ys quality or not).
Ive always been a bit skeptical, but im gonna remain open minded and if this game is released in english (which im sure it will) im gonna have to get it cuz you dont see many Ys games getting translated... so just like with Ys VI we've gotta show them that the rest of the world also loves Ys (although, hopefully they dont get the wrong message and think we want more strategy )
Besides, if we got an action-adventure Ys game, im guessing the bottom screen would just be used for moving Adol with the Stylus and the top screen would be a map... i guess they could do that in the future, but for now i think it's good that they're trying to give DS's hardware a chance. Since it's an RTS... hopefully there will be some classic Ys action involved...
so far my only real complaint is the graphics... which could be better... but i need to see the game in motion first, i guess. The art isnt as good as any past Ys game, but atleast its not horrible, in my opinion. I have deffinately seen much worse...
edit: woah, i didnt think id end up saying so much
