Bumping or Slashing, what do you like better? Both have their distinct advantages: Bumps -allow you to play Ys with one hand! -are a lot less messy. They don't leave trails of blood and scatter money, ores and random power-ups around when ripping enemies apart. -give instant cash in pocket. -have their own charm. There's something about slaughtering everything in sight just by running around. Slashes -have different animations! -require two hands -....hmm, just realized I can't think of any other good points for hack and slash. Any slashers around? I guess I just love bumping stuff

Bumping without a doubt. I play Ys 1 and 4 very often. On various systems. Without giving it much attention, because it doesn't really require it. And that's always enjoyable. It's like playing with a yo-yo or something, it's entertaining, but doesn't require much thought, and you can do something else while doing it. Like watching TV or listening to music.
Never really liked Ys II though, so I almost never play it.
Although I do really like the fighting in Ys V. It has a very unique feeling to it.

^o^~
I like how cleanliness is listed as an advantage for bumping. ^o^!
Well, I like both ways~! However, I like playing chicken more with the slashing than bumping. :D

That would just be too awesome if the bump came back in the next Ys.

Depends. But overall, bumping. xD Play Ys II Special, where you can do both. Slashing is really cool and all, but you get tired much more quickly too. Bumping is so simple, yet so great and awesome. I like slashing for a more "sofisticated" gameplay experience. When I feel like it, that is. When I want to concentrate on playing. Ys rules! Ys II Special double-rules!

Slashing! So much more fun and safer! My Adol always got himself impaled while bumping (I'm a bad aimer... ) and is still getting himself impaled and stabbed! I'm bad with bumping with both hands, let alone one! Plus slashing/stabbing has that extra plus of mashing the buttons (and being a great tension releaser! :'D) and actually feeling more involved! Die evil monsters!! Ofcourse, I'm horrid with both on the PC. Er... I pretty much made Adol slash poor Elena to death instead of the monsters... if he could have killed her that is!

If you have difficulties playing Ys games on PC, then you can get a PS2-modeled GamePad or get an adaptor to let you use PS1/ PS2 controllers in the PC. That's what I did to play YsOiF.

There's a one-handed "RPG" game controller for almost every console. I h ave never tested any of them, but I imagine that they could be neat.

I've been meaning to get one since forever actually. One of those PS2-modeled gamepads. But laziness combined with discovering there be loads of different sorts (when I actually did look) has left me gamepad-less till now. No clue which one was the right one to buy! This adaptor sounds nice though! One handed controller? I'm sure I'll make Adol stab Elena even more with it!

I remember seeing one in an EGM back in the very early 90's for the SNES. I wanted it so damn bad but my mom thought I was an idiot and suggested that my current controllers were fine.

Yakra: What you need is Super Joy Box 3 Pro. Some, such as FM-77, disapprove of this adapter. But I use it all the time, specifically to play Ys games, and it works perfectly for me. Highly recommended - and cheap, too! Dunno if Play-Asia ships to Pakistan, though. -Tom Free delivery within Pakistan! I don't have a credit card though, so I think I'll pester the game guy. He's gotten me some weird stuffs before (Pocketstation!) soooo... Oh my! Free delivery! *can't get over that!*

While we're on the topic of joysticks, is the X-Arcade Tankstick any good? I'm thinking of turning my old Win 95/98 PC into an arcade machine, with a custom cabinet and all. X)

I'm kinda shocked how people say the bumping is more relaxing and requires less attention and thought. That's pretty much what I think about slashing . Bumping keeps me on edge more, because if you bump someone the wrong way you die in mere seconds! There's no such danger to slashing.

Fun button mashing while Adol does nice twirly combos! Well... it still requires attention, but still! I'm thinking if Play-Asia is actually shipping somethings for free could Falcom actually be... cheap? (Oh mi god! I want Ys Origins! With the artbook!! )
