Heh, I understand that floofy. I thought the same thing about Dallas and laughed. The fact that I lived so close and have visited so many times makes it that much funnier to me. Not to mention, I had a friend named Dallas. I met him in a mental institution, and my fondest memory was of that time when he scared the shit out of a paranoid patient; reciting Mr. Happy (Insane Clown Posse) lyrics to that demented individual, that was awesome. Anyway, I didn't mean to derail this one. *ahem* Dalles is good. *nods*

One thing at a time, man! I told you before, I'm not going to be the fastest translator around, as I'm juggling several things at once right now. I'll try to get as much translated as I can before the weekend is out, though. -Tom Man don't worry...i'm not in hurry. I wanted only to ask you, not to put you in hurry or so.. take your time..no matter what it will take... it was only a request for the future part..nothing else. Thank you

Dahrez XD Dahres o.o They just don't have the same ring as Dalles. Dalles sounds like a goofy, quirky midboss who shouldn't be taken seriously. Dalles should have a southern accent, just for shits and giggles.

My girlfriend is going to kill me, as I have been saying all the different ways posted. In my personal opinion, Dalles rolls of the tongue better, and I feel more comfortable saying his name that way. It just feels more natural, you know?

Dalles rolls of the tongue better. Seconded. Personally, I tend to call him Darres out of a small intensity, however, translated, Dalles. They sound the same, pretty much, even though Dalles lacks as much intensity as Darres. It's an equivalent. That's my two cents. I don't care if it sounds like Dallas, it's not Dallas!

I'm of the mind that Dalles sounds less engrishy than Darres.

I go with Dalles cuz... uh... that's how I first heard/saw it. Anything else just smacks of Engrish to me.

I also prefer Dalles, because that what i called him based on my Katakana knowledge. So i am sticking with that, and it looks easier on the eyes compare with the other names.

So.... let's use Dallles and let finish this useless discussion... 6 board pages to decide one name? Don't you think is pretty much,do you? Let's talk abbout more important things...

It's a ploy to keep the thread active! That must be it! XD
Though on the subject of names and translating in general, beyond "Mucha," are there any that are still in any kind of debate for an English equivalent?

Musia, dammit! Or Musica! XD // Oh, and it can't be "Dallles" as earlier suggested. Dalles with two l's works just fine.

Dark Fact? In Ys Origin? ...Am I missing something?
This is probably a minor gripe, but I'd prefer it if the whole goddess/demon man moniker associated with Reah/Feena/Toal whenever they talk is dropped. It just seems so arbitrary. I know there's sort of a reason for Toal's case, but it just looks so stupid being there when it's already obvious if you pay any attention to the game's plot to begin with.

...I feel atrocious for not having recognized this amazing spectacle sooner. Although a little late, I wish to cast my vote, if the translators do not mind.
First, I don't mind sticking with Dino. All other alternatives I've thought of are somewhat lackluster regardless, so I really don't care either way for this one's name.
Second, Sion sounds slightly more impressive than most other names, but is actually used more often than one would think. Sion is the main character in The Bouncer, for example. Syon, while a horrible romanization of the literal name (at least from my understanding of Japanese), sounds intriguingly exotic. And I'll have to agree with wyrdwad on Shion, it is overused in a multitude of anime (and is the name of the main character of Order of Ecclesia too! XD). But it still has this appealing ring to it... In any case, I'll go with either Sion or Syon.
Third... Yeah, I'll go with Lair. Don't hate me for this, but Reah feels to me like it is simply Japanese Engrish for Lair. It doesn't sound too... appealing for her stature either. While Lair isn't too much better, Leah sounds like the name of a mortal. We all know Lair is one of the twin goddesses of Ys, I'm sure. : ) Also, I like to be consistent whenever possible, even though this vote is somewhat hypocritical of my upcoming statements.
Fourth, Yunica... the deciding factor here for me is simply how her name is spelled. Yunika sounds a bit too obtrusive, and Eunica, while creative and satisfying to read, doesn't seem feminine enough. (Though Yunica is a tad far from feminine sometimes in story, hahaha.) All in all, I think Yunica fits best; it seems cute, and yet the prefix gives off an enigmatic air, and, combining with the suffix, makes a fairly wholesome girlish name.
Finally, Thor Fact... Toal, please. I'm not sure Falcom wants anything to do with Norse mythology in my humble opinion-- instead building upon their own universe-- and so, I'd like to remove that tiny contingency if possible.
Also, I vote Miusha. Female names with powerful constants bothers me, so I'm feeling kinda adamant about Miusha.
And thank you both for doing the translating for such an awesome game, Tom and doppiapunta. You're helping fans everywhere learn more about an exciting franchise. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. Although I lack the education for the programing of images, I'm fairly fluent in Japanese.
