Is there a place or several places I kind find each Ys games basic battle mechanics? I understand that not in all Ys games adol just bumps into his enemies, but you need to press a button to swing his sword?

Every version of Ys 1 and 2 feature bump fighting. Ys 4 for SFC and PCE feature bump fighting.
Ys 3 has a typical side scrolling battle system. Press button to swing sword. But you can also do downthrusts and even hit upward.
Ys 5 has a typical Zelda battle system. Press button to swing sword.
Ys 6, YsF and YsO has a fast action game like battle system. Mindless hack and slash. Press button repeatedly to kill all enemies.

Hey FM, if you just play it on very easy, it's really no fun!

I dunno. Ys 6 can be pretty mindless as far as going through hordes of common enemies. But it's a good kind of mindless.

I'm never playing anything on easy. It's normal or nothing, for me.

About the engine used on Ys VI, YsF and YsO, the answer is: it depends how the player plays, basically.
My guess is that most people would play them kind of mindlessly, basically just pushing the buttons when the enemy is nearby. I can't speak for others, really, but as for myself, I like to explore a game's system to the extreme, epsecially when it's a game I like (Ys). For example, going to the Elderm Mountains right after starting a new game on YsF is not something one can do mindlessly. XD Trust me. It actually almost makes me sweat a little bit sometimes, due to the concentration involved.
Anyway, I love all the engines used. =]

I play it like a Zelda game, and I seem to have no problems with the game engine. Its an action-rpg, its very simple, and if you have quick reflexes and a quick eye then you should be fine.
