Vote. I guess I wrote down every engine ever used in the series. Even Vantage Master was mentioned, since most VMs had Ys characters. Sorry if its inclusion is a bit weird. Speaking of weirdness, sorry about the Battle Systems' names. Some are rather bad, but I couldn't come up with anything better. Note: "User can retract their vote" is activated. Don't worry if you ever change your mind or do a mistake. =================== My vote: I didn't vote yet. I'm thinking about it now. But either the Bump System, the Bump + Slash System or the 3D Mindless Slashing System.

The OLD system. Not to be confused with the fast and easy one that they used in Ys 1-2 Saturn and Ys 1-2 Eternal. The OOOOLD system from the very original game is the one I like the most. In it, one step is eight pixels - half a square (which is half of Adol's, or an enemy's, size). This is the most perfect and fun battle system ever. It is what made Ys Ys.

Good post. Hm... I'm not decided yet... but I think it might be the classic Bump System for me. Though Ys II special has the same system, but also lets you slash for greater damage. I'm confused between these both! I also really, reaaaaaaally like the 3D "Mindless" Slashing System, but its major flaw for me is that I get tired of it eventually (might take days or months). Surely, after a few weeks I'm all pumped up again to use it, but the Bump System... You never get tired of it! I need little more time to make a decision. Oh, on a side note: my favorite Ys game (gameplaywise only) that uses the classic Bump System is 'Ys I·II ETERNAL STORY' for the PS2. I love the swords' side-effects on the enemies, plus all the goodness from Ys I.II COMPLETE.

I love them both equally... to ask me to choose would be like asking a mother to choose between her children! -Tom Great description. XD

This thread just made me NEED to play Ys IV The Dawn of Ys! Damn this thread! I don't have any systems hooked up now, do I really have to do it?

Hmmm. Would a prefer a masterfully made chocolate cake with small bowl on top filled with high quality diamonds for me to keep, a solid gold ferrari with a guy willing to buy it off me, or mint versions of all the NES and SNES games that I liked, including the ones I even only liked a bit?

I chose can't decide, because I wanted to see the votes, and I only played the original Ys in SMS. Although, I think I will try the remade Ys I & II version soon. I will ask about it in another thread.

I chose the last option just because I could.
Actually, my REAL answer would be "can't decide" cuz I like all the ones I've experienced! XD
I'm keeping my answer though. >D

TBH I chose the fails at gameplay option(I know I suck ;( ). I never thought Ys had a strong battle system compared to other games in it's generation. Doesn't mean I don't like them(I obviously do!) just objectively I don't think it was good ;0

I can't decide, I love both systems too much, although if I were to lean to one it would have to be for the 'bum' only for its originality though. I should play an Ys game soon, its almost been 3 months since Ys 5 for me.

I voted for "The perfect Bump & Slash System! (Ys II Special)". It's the bump system, which is my favorite. Slashing is a great plus for me, no loss there. xD Thus that's my vote. And darusgrey... omg. 'o.o How come you enjoy the Ys series, but not the gameplay? xD Sounds kind of contraditory to me, but oh well...

I never said I didn't enjoy the games, just that I don't think the gameplay was ever good from an objective standpoint.
Still <3 the games.

So hard to choose. I really like the bump system and just ramming into things until they burst but the 3D Ys games are so well done and have better, more exciting gameplay than most action/adventure games out there.

Most of my play time has been on the Turbo Grafx Ys games, so I vote the classic bump.

Now that I think about it, the Bump System is slightly different in PCE's Ys games than most of the versions... You can directly bump head-to-head into enemies and expect to hit them quite a few times. In most of the versions though, you really must try your best to hit at the sides of the enemy. Oh well, too late now. But I thought it would be good to mention that.

More mindless slash and destroy anything that moves, please. XD
Mostly because it was rollicking good fun to play tag with the enemies all over the rooms and then whirlwhind/pinball/flameLASERPEWPEW!! them to death en masse.
But the bump system (affectionately referred to as Adol's "Order of the Battering Ram" style by Cyhirae and me) had its fun times too. I'm really more partial to the latest system (YsF, YsO) though. And no, NOT because it's the latest. It's just the most fun for me. XD

I voted for the classic Ys I & II Complete system, because I love it. Simple as that. It is the most engaging battle system I've ever used in a game! It may sound odd, since you're just running into them, but damn if it isn't special. It is also fast. Without it Ys wouldn't be the perfect length! Which it is
