The last 3 Ys games presented a new gameplay engine and many new features. They share many similarities, but they also have their own unique features. Here, you vote on the one you like the most! You can justify your vote if you wish, too. And as for Ys VI, you may specify which version you like most, but it isn't necessary. Note you can also retract they vote, so vote without worrying too much. I, myself, only have played YsVI and YsF, so my vote will be based on these two. When I play YsO later, my vote may change, or not. =========================== Anyway, my favorite from these 3 is YsVI. But like I said, I didn't play YsO yet, so I may change my mind in the future. The reasons are many, actually. I find its soundtrack to be one of the best in the series, its quite distinctive. It pleases me a lot, I just really love it. It is many, MANY times more pleasant than YsF's soundtrack, at least to me. Note that I'm not saying YsF's is bad; it is awesome! But I like YsVI's more. There are also factors in gameplay. I love that Adol can use his swords in three different ways, and I really like the skills of each sword, and I find the swords' spells to be more interesting than YsF's Hero Mode. Also, I like it that you can't double jump. I think Adol's jump is already too high as it is, so it wasn't actually necessary. Actually, there are the two sides of the coin: gameplay gets more dynamic because of it, but it also makes other things "dull". Anyway, I liked it better the way it is in Ys VI. Of course, that's only a matter of taste. Also the world "map" feels a lot more "opened" in Ys VI. In YsF, it's kind of like a "disguised 2D"; everything is so linear. In Ys VI, though, you mostly have wide-opened zones to wander about. (Don't misunderstand me, I love wandering in both games. Ys VI just gets another plus, though.) There's also another thing, inventory-wise. In Ys VI you have many accessory slots and a large arsenal of different accesories, but in YsF you only have very, very few accessories (about 4 or 5 times less) and they aren't very interesting. Also there are items you can equip yourself with to use in the middle of the battle and other nice items such as seeds to increase Att, Def and HP (in YsF there's only the HP one). Ys VI also has statuses. Adol can get either poisoned, cursed, slowed, confused or them all. The only status in YsF is the "stun" status for enemies. Man, I really like those. Ys IV MotS was the only Ys to have health conditions before Ys VI (it has poison), and I really liked it. Also, there's the story. Ys VI was a new story, so there isn't much to say there. xD And I find its story to me much more attractive and creative than either YsF's or Ys III's. Also I didn't like the changes done in the story from Ys III to YsF, I really didn't. =/ Most additions were cliche stuff, such as the existence of another all-mighty legendary sword. >_>' There are changes I liked too, but there aren't many. Heheh, after saying this much in the way I'm saying, it sounds like I have something against YsF. But I don't. To be more precise, I would give YsVI a 10/10 score, while I would give YsF a 9/10 score or something. They both are simply amazing games. Also, I think YsO is very promising, having so many characters to play with and with a new story that has the potential to be one of the best in the series; I have yet to see it someday.

Actually, if Ys VI had the double-jumping from YsF, it'd make life a whole lot easier -- especially since it obsoletes the dash-jump ability!

Like I said, it made many things "dull". xD Oh! Also I forgot to mention something important about Ys VI's gameplay! There are armor and shield in the game with special effects! I wonder why in the world Falcom didn't put anything of the kind in YsF. =/ For example, there's an armor that gives you 10% more money, and a shield that raises your power etc.. So, for example, if you are into some desperate money hunting, you could equip the Thief Gloves and that money-giving armor. Since that armor was rather weak, you always had to be careful when fighting powerful foes, a price that at least I was willing to pay for getting more money. I used it a lot to get as many vitality Seeds as possible from Kevin's shop. At least I liked that Falcom did Ys VI and YsF so differently, so that we could enjoy both in their very own ways.

I went with Ys VI for a few reasons:
-It was the first to pull off the new engine, and I still feel it did it the best!
-Best Music, Best Characters, Best Bosses, Best Story
-Dash Jump made things difficult, but extremely rewarding once mastered.
-By far the most easy to access out of the three games
I chose not to choose the others for one major reason: Unoriginality. YsO was set in the tower, yet again. Yeah things were changed, but I was not happy with the lack of Adol, and really upset to hear that you have to play the game 2 times, with trivial change, if you want to unlock a 3rd character, all so you can play the game......again. YsF has already been done. Same tunes, same characters, same levels, no new surprises. It was fun to play, and remakes are always neat, but why did Falcom feel the need to remake Ys III?
Tough question, as each game is great, but I will always hold a special place for Ys VI. Its the game that got me back into the series, and after all, brought me here.

YsF, but VI is close. I still remember sitting at a public computer and I had this habit of searching for Ys VI when I had no idea if the series had died at part V or not. Then one day an image popped up of Adol fighting the first Ys VI boss. I completely freaked, and soon began learning how to order from Falcom. By the time the game came out, I had already made a couple purchases from Falcom, bought a PC, and had the game just a few days after the release date.
I was enthralled, and was nearly late to work on a regular basis due to playing it constantly. It didn't matter that I couldn't understand it, I got over that playing Ys IV and V.
Ys VI is a critical title, and deserves a lot of credit. In a way, the series was kind of dead, without a new chapter for a long time, and it jump started everything again instantly.
As for YsF, I just like how it improved on everything that was introduced in VI, and how much faster Adol moves. The music has a lot to do with it too, and even though I love Ys VI's music, YsF stepped it up big time.
I love Origin, and have no problem with it taking place in Darm Tower, and I enjoyed it tremendously. I just love it less than YsF.

Heh, I remember when I first found out about Ys 6 too. Can't even remember how I stumbled on it, but I remember being addicted to Mighty Obstacle and Far West ocean, watching the trailer with the former in repeatedly. I had no idea how to get the game though, and when I stumbled on nunuu's livejournal where she'd apparently uploaded the oggs they'd been taken down. Damn you nunuu.
Anyway, I go for Origin. I've got no attachment to Adol so for me it was really refreshing to have protagonists with actual character development for once. Similarly the bosses were the most intense in the series, for me. My absolute favourite thing about the Ys series right now is the lack of the ability to use healing items in battle so you have to do it on one health bar, and because it doesn't have that Ys 6 is definitely my least favourite. That and its music, which is full of potential but fails to live up to it because of the synth. Come on Falcom, stick a newly recorded with live instruments version of Ernst on a CD. Please?

I can't remember if I had lot of trouble with the dash jump or not in Ys VI. I just remember falling 92384372 times in the Ruins of Amnesia during my attempt to get to Majuunun. :P
As for my fave out of the 3, I'm tempted to pick Ys VI because my poor memory tells me it's the one with the least amount of damn obstacles.
Varion: Do you still want the Ys VI OST? :P

xD Yeah, Ys VI also was the one who brought me back into the series. After my TurboGrafx CD device broke and after my SNES was given to my brother's ex-girlfriend, I only returned to the series in 2003 by playing Ys IV SNES, but it didn't last long, since I didn't use the internet much back then. Later, in July 2005, somehow I heard that the Ys series had even chapters V and VI, and I got stunned. I quickly donwloaded the Ys V ROM, while my older brother bought me Ys VI PS2, which made me get absolutelly hooked. Since then, I decided to find a PCE emulator and not only replay Ys Book I & II, but as well hunt down every Ys title I could find, and get to know the series for real. Eventually, an year later, I ended winding up here. But Ys VI resurrected it all. So it has indeed a reserved place within me, even if I am to like other Ys games more than it. (Perhaps Ys ORIGIN or Ys SEVEN, who knows.) Also: [...]during my attempt to get to Majuunun. : P Majuununuu~!!

Hmm actually, it was Ys VI that brought me back to Falcom. Especially when that was the time I was learning Japanese on my own. I had played Ys I and II Eternal years back but those were Chinese localized and I wasn't really into Japanese stuff then. And then Ys VI appeared and made my computer gaming so much better. And the rest is history.
Still I'm giving my vote to Origin because of Yunica!!!! And her oven mittens!!!

For me, it's a toss-up between Ys VI and YsF (haven't played YsO yet).
On the one hand, I prefer Felghana's difficulty, as it just feels like more actual skill is required. Not to say that Ys VI doesn't require skill, just that it feels like some of the bosses' attacks are harder to dodge, almost forcing you to use items. It almost feels like they want you to take damage in some of those fights. No such thing in Felghana, although that is of course due to the healing items being forcefully used right away. Another thing I dislike about VI is the status effects, although that's mostly because of the confusion ailment.
As for Felghana, I dislike the lack of accessories, although I do feel like VI had too much of them. Still, it would've been nice if there were more optional ones in Felghana. Another edge that VI has over Felghana (in my opinion) is the amount of characters to talk to. It was a lot of fun for me to talk to people after various events (partially because I enjoyed most of the English voice acting - shocking to some of you, I'm sure), and Felghana was kind of lacking in that department. In Felghana, that part of the game just seemed to pass by too quickly. I guess I just didn't feel immersed enough in Redmont's culture, felt like I didn't know the characters all that well.
As for the games' music, I like both of their tracks a lot, although Felghana's tend to stick out more. While I do enjoy most of Felghana's music quite a lot, I think I actually prefer VI's soundtrack, in large part due to the music in the Ernst battle (the Grana-Vallis Mountains and Ruins of Amnesia were also good ones to listen to). Listening to the Ernst battle in particular seems to be what usually pulls me back into the series after not playing it for a while. I guess Felghana just doesn't have enough of the "quieter" music (don't really know how to describe it - kind of like Ruins of Amnesia's music, as in it's not "in your face") for my tastes.
Having said all that, I think I'll give the edge to Ys VI, even though Felghana is easier for me to pick up and play. Ys VI I feel just has a much more immersive environment, whereas Felghana is a good game to play through quickly.

Hmm, the only Redmont theme I currently recall is the one before heading to the final dungeon. Then again, town themes almost never stick out to me. The only other quiet themes in Felghana I can recall are Chester's (or perhaps it was Elena's - the sad sounding one) and the Elderm Mountains. Neither of which I cared for very much. I mean, they were OK, but not as good as the other pieces, in my opinion.

Ys, Ys II and Ys III all have the best music in my book, which means that YsF has these three beat in the music dept. I <3 the town theme, and the gypsy-esque shop themes, and stuff.

And I'm surprised to hear you say that town themes don't stick out for you... for me, they're always some of the best songs in the game, especially in Falcom games! Guess I worded it wrong. It's not that the town themes don't stick out, it's just that I generally have a hard time remembering them unless I've played the respective games very recently (I can be quite forgetful). For instance, a lot of the music running through my mind lately comes from Ys I & II Complete, mostly because that's what I've been playing recently. Once I'm done with those games (which will likely take a while, for speedrunning purposes), I'm sure much of those themes will be forgotten until I reload the games, or until I get really bored with other things (Ys music always seems to cheer me up). And now that you posted those themes, I definitely do remember them, although I'm not too big on the second link you posted. I'm fairly certain that I also enjoyed the town themes from Ys VI (as well as the other Ys games), but I simply cannot recall them right now (closest thing would be Quatera Woods). Guess I'll be loading Ys VI sometime tomorrow...

I havent played Ys VI yet, so outta Felghana and Origins, I would have to say Felghana because it goit me hooked onto Ys (I already was after Eternal and Ys3) but it made me want to play Origins. Plus I like the weapon system and armor system, specially the fact that Adol's look will change based on the armor set he was wearing which is not present in Orgins (so far, havent beat it yet but close).
