I really hope that this isn't an inappropriate topic, and I hope it's in the right place.
How hard would it be, to port Ys 1&2 complete to the wii? My friend tells me that nintendo systems programming is based on windows (though my hacking abilities are much too scarce to confirm it).
It's just that it doesn't sound hard. Emulators run on the wii, and operate the same way as they do on the computer. An executable file no more than a couple of megabytes tells all of the files in a resource folder how and when to interact with one another. All of the resources could be held on an SD card. You could even convert the sound to ogg to save space. If ScummVM can run Curse of Monkey island, who knows what other computer games the wii could manage.

It would probably be easier to run on a 360, or even a Dreamcast, but the workload for that would be insane.

really? I mean All the doom games have been ported. almost all of the files are waves or jpgs. I can't imagine the DC being able to handle it. It can barely handle snes games.

IIRC, the DC not being able to handle SNES games is a result of poor programming. Afterall, it's a port of a PC emulator, not a new build. Again, that's if I remember correctly, I'm not sure.

Doom wasn't ported, it was emulated, which sounds like nitpicking, but there is quite a difference.
The technology and programing prowess does exist to port Ys I and II complete to anything, but resources cost money, and ultimatly I don't think Falcom is going to bugger with the game again.

Good point.
What are we experiencing now, the fifth or sixth Ys I and II revival?

I don't mean a wii port of the game. I mean emulating it. All of the files are fairly simple. You could have a channel on the wii that contained an executable, and the resource folders could be on an sd card. It would be *almost* like having the Eternal Story versions as you could play it on the tv, cept in english ya know. I guess I just like playing games on consoles better than PC. Something about the couch being more comfy and the screen being bigger.... maybe.

Again, I am sure it could be done, but for what you are trying to do, I would rather attempt it on a 360 or a Dreamcast.
Mister FM77/USER/SELDANE would be the perfect guy to ask about this, but he has been gone for a while now.

Hmmm... I suppose if you convert the files, you could fit both of the games on one dreamcast disc. Plus putting it on that or the 360 would let you spend a few hours creating your own custom caseart and disc label (or am I the only one who does that with my homebrew discs?) I guess if it went to the 360, that would give me a reason to buy one.
Seldane is gone? How am I going to get the password to the downloads section? aawwww man. I really want to play the old pc 88 versions. well, I hope all is well for Seldane.

He isn't indefinitely gone, but he hasn't been posting as much lately, and the password for the download section doesn't exist, because the download section doesn't exist. Just ask around, I am sure someone will pass it along to you.

ask around? I certainly couldn't do that. I couldn't ask someone to send information or roms to my e-mail address sano-ichiro@hotmail.com
interesting to hear about the Downloads section. I downloaded Ys II Special, as I found the link in a thread. Is it just a matter of finding the url for these games? Well, I'm falling wildly off topic. If Seldane returns, I'll ask him about the idea of a wii executable for these games. I just don't see it as being any harder than any other emulator, but I don't really know I guess.
