I'm willing to guess that those files would be no bigger than a BAT or even an INI -- I presume that they're no more than configuration files, so somewhere around 100 Kb?

The files would be as large as the actual games(cause the game would be inside the file, pre-configured to run on an Mac).
There may be option to simply do config files too, but I haven't found it yet, still playing with this a lot, it's a pretty amazing piece of software.

Well, if you still feel up for it, it'd be great to have a FAQ on how the process is done. I know that there are several Falcom games that I would surely love to try and play on OSX Leopard since I use that as my primary computer because Macs are hella sweet. : ) It also may not hurt to have that information in case one needs to update their game to the latest patch and what not.

This is where a FAQ would come in handy, because I end up getting the same results each time I've attempted an install of a Falcom game. : )

Could you guys tell me exactly what model macs you're trying this on? including hardware like specific video cards and what version of of OSX you use? 10.4.9, 10.5.6, etc?
They work flawlessly for me, which means it's either a difference in OS version, physical hardware, or perhaps I'm simply blessed by the goddesses of Ys.

Sure, I'm running a installation of Leopard OSX 10.5.6 on a MBP 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. 4 GiB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Graphics Card: GeForce 8600M GT 256 ram. And the current, demo version of Cross Over 7.1.

Ok, well the only major difference between us is Nvidia graphics cards, I'm gonna try it on my MBP when I get a chance, cause right now I'm using my desktop mac pro which uses an ATI card.

Worked just fine on MBP. I'll do a step-by-step install guide but I'm not sure how much it could help, since it's just doing nothing different than using a win98 bottle instead of winxp.

Step1: Open Crossover for Games Step2: Click install software Step3: Click install unsupported software. Step4: Click continue and create a NEW bottle, name it whatever, and choose WIN98. Step5: Hit install, a gibberish Ys screen pops up, click the top left for install. Step6: Click the left-most option in every menu to install the game, sometimes you will get an error here, also in gibberish, for no apparent reason, I've only encountered it twice in 20+ installs now, if you get it, simply restart the process, it will work eventually. Step7: When Ys is done installing, click the bottom most right option to "Exit installer" and then wait a few moments, eventually cross-over will enable the "finish" button, click it.
Congratulations, you now have Ys on OSX.
Optional step: In Cross-over, go to "manage bottles", select the bottle you installed Ys(or whatever) to, and then click "control panel", select "WineCFG" and hit "Launch selected item".
This will bring up the wine options menu of that bottle. Go to graphics and check "Emulate a virtual desktop" with the size you want. This will allow you to run the game in a window like I show in my last picture.
Finally click the "Ys1" launch file(it's the Ys logo, not the girl sprite, that's options), and enjoy!
If it's not working for you guys after this than I don't have the slighest clue what's wrong, it has now worked flawlessly for me on 3 different macs, and we've ruled out the GPU thing.

Any success? I'd like to get to the bottom of this if there's any issues.

Wow Darus! That's quite amazing, both a text guide and image guide. Tell you what. After I'm done with my classes tomorrow, I'll download the images and setup a small html webpage that shows all of this in one spot. With your permission, if this guide works for us, I hope you'll let me host the guide from that "nameless" AARPG website sometime that you and I have been prototyping. : )
I'll need to find my discs for the Ys games as they are currently at my folk's house at the moment, but I'll try out the process as soon as I am able. Should be sometime this weekend.
Thanks for doing this!

Reminds me, I asked you to send me the info you collected on AIM but I don't think you ever saw it ;0.
When you have a chance send me the responses you got so I can merge them with mine and we can start going over them.

Hmm, yeah I haven't logged on AIM since we last chatted. I really never use IM programs unless I'm scheduling a meetup with someone, sorry about that. : ) I usually get too distracted when I'm on and I've been so focused on getting some of these Xanadu character models finished up since a lot of it is also being used to fulfill a college class assignment.
I went ahead and compiled it all into one text file and emailed it to you. I'll work on setting up the small webpage with this Crossover process after my next class.

I wonder if this could work on an Apple laptop?
Just thinking aloud...
I hope I get a certain job, so that I can afford one. @_@

Nope. I get that error every single time. What version of Ys I and II Complete are you installing? I've got the gold case original. This is a known problem with it, but there is no way to fix it since I can't install language packs via Crossover (to my knowledge at least.) Blah. Maybe I will try Xanadu Next. You're using a different Version than me...no camera near-by but it's the one a blueish box, where Ys1 and Ys2 are on separate install discs instead of an install and a game disc. I also happen to have the gold one so I'm going to try that now, but I gave my gold compatability rating to the blue box.

Thanks for making this guide. I think it will end up being a very useful tutorial for sharing the Ys love with Mac users. : ) I went ahead and made a page for it that kind of puts it all together for easy viewing: Falcom on Mac OSXI'll test out the procedure myself when I get over to my parents house to pick up my installation disks. -Thomas

Well, I've not had ANY luck whatsoever getting any of following Falcom games to install on my MBP:
I used CrossOver 7.1 first prior to using CrossOver Games 7.2, as I didn't quite understand the fact that they are two separate programs.
Using CrossOver 7.1, I was at least able to install Xanadu Next (DVD-rom that came with LE version of XN) on both a winXP and win98 bottle, no problems. However, running the installed application resulted in a black screen everytime.
I was also able to get Ys Origin to install using a winVista bottle (since this is the Vista version of the game), but when it tried to run the app, it coughed up some kind of file giberish error at the menu screen.
Ys I & II Complete (Vista ver) did not install under any bottle type. There was a "save/text" error that appeared during installation which would kill the install everytime.
So all of the above was with CrossOver 7.1.
Then I tried Cross Over Games 7.2, which I'm assuming is what you all are using.
Xanadu Next: Nothing installed. Got an error every single time with Xanadu Next and it would never pop up the Xanadu Next installation screen, just hang while trying to read this disc.
Ys I & II Complete (Vista): Same error as before with the "Save/Text" something or another. Didn't matter which bottle type I tried.
Ys Origin (Vista):
Nothing Installed. Got an error everytime and no pop-up of the Ys Origin Menu under any bottle configuration.
I also have Gurumin, Ys Oath in Felghana and Ys VI (2 disc CD-version....) the three Sora no Kiseki games and Ys I Eternal, Ys II Eternal that I could try... but if I coudn't get some of the games you all have been able to get working properly to work so far, it's unlikely they will work either.
I'm wondering what else I could try, specifically related to Xanadu Next, since that is what I'd surely like to play the most on my Mac.
DarusGrey, was there any way you could make an export package of a bottle configuration of some of these games? I'd love to see if your settings would work in getting the game to run. If you need webpace to upload something huge, I have a web server that you could upload the package to.
Thanks for your help.
