Any serious Castlevania fans play this yet? I have a copy in shrink-wrap that I'm scared to even start up. Here's the problem: I LOVE Castlevania. Yes, the 3D games have mostly been bad - although I have a few oddball opinions on those - but I adore the 2D series. The classics, yes, and even moreso the "Metroidvania" games. My favorites are probably Super Castlevania IV (for classic style) and Dawn of Sorrow (for Metroidvania style). Throwing out the existing timeline and doing a reboot that's a copy of... God of War, a series I REALLY don't like... makes me nervous. And yet, I love Castlevania. For its music, its gameplay... and this game got good reviews, so... yeah... Yeah. It's not a Castlevania game. It's a completely different kind of game with the Castlevania name slapped onto it. To give you an idea: I'm about as "serious" a Castlevania fan as they come (played nearly every game ever released in the series), and I got rid of this game after giving it more than a fair shot. I am NOT the kind of gamer to trade in or sell games at all - this game was just not worth my time anymore, and it kinda pissed me off that this was supposed to be what Castlevania is now. So out it went. The gameplay isn't anything like Castlevania - it's long chains of overly-complex combos and quick-time events instead of quickly dispatching hordes of enemies. The music doesn't really exist for the most part, and don't expect to hear a rocking rendition of Bloody Tears while you play - none of the classic tunes are here. Even the vampires and succubi manage to be ass-ugly. I mean, how does that even work? I've decided that letting Star Trek: TNG marathons run in the background as I play one of the handheld real Castlevania games gets me my Patrick Stewart fix just fine.

I actually might like LoS if not for three things:
1) The hideous western fantasy character design 2) The incredibly dull western orchestral score 3) The misuse of the Castlevania name
I love the vistas and the gameplay looks pretty fun (then again, I like most games with similar gameplay), but from the demo and the articles I've read about it, I think I'll wait until the price drops to the $20-30 range before picking it up. That should give me some time to finish Jericho, anyway, which is actually a pretty decent game, limited color pallette aside.

The combat is boring, that right there just makes it an....ok game, but, with the CV name on it, bleh. And the music is not CV. If anything, the music stinks, becuase they put the CV name on it, otherwise I'd probably like it, but, as a fan, I have expectations of certain things, music being one of those.
I read somewhere someone said they think Nier feels more like a CV games, but has better characters n' stuff. So, I'm going to give that a try, & not have to have expectations of it being CV, if you understand what I mean.

I really enjoyed the game. . . at first. After a few stages it got kind of boring, and I finally just lost interest. What's sad is, I really expected more from both a Castlevania and a Kojima production. I thought if nothing else, there'd be a good story. So disappointing
I was pleasantly surprised to hear Patrick Stewart right off the top. . . but that's not enought to make a game.

Yeah, I started it up last night. Played for a few hours... not really feeling it so far. It has so little to do with Castlevania. Aside from a few references in the names - I mean, really, there's not even a whip in the damn game, and Gabriel ain't like any Belmont I've ever seen. I sit down for a Castlevania game, and I'm like "OK! Whips and vampires and castles and Dracula and such." Then they tell me "First, we're going to talk about the Titans that ruled before the old gods, the ancient faun Pan, and an order of Priests for a few hours." And I'm like "Umm... hey, what does anything of this have to do with CASTLEVANIA?!" I feel like I stepped into the wrong class. Like I signed up for a class about Martin Luther without realizing it wasn't about MLK Jr. The music is definitely disappointing me greatly so far. Nothing memorable, no classic tunes except for, um, this thing: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsqPtD048toThat last bit cracked me up. I think I'd rather just download Harmony of Despair - OH WAIT IT'S NOT ON PSN Somebody bring back IGA.

Just thought I'd pop in and remind everyone that this game has one of the worst final bosses ever.
